Black Culture Discussion Thread

Thread

Bill Gluckman 2024 @GlamazonJay Let’s talk about how the main people who are expected to reach back and take care of their entire families when they “make it” usually be the older daughters or just daughters in general. -

this another example of someone taking their own experience & generalizing it,

1) in most black families whoever does "make it" starts to get looked at as the caretaker
2) women usually are the ones looked at to literally take care of & nurture the family, Men are looked at to foot all the expenses & handle financial burdens. that is a factor of how society grroms us

This gets slippery in regards to censorship but F that something needs to be tried, this current culture is delivering horrible results

And banned is only in regards to radio and public television. If you got streaming and other cable services, you can still consume your content. But I'm interested in seeing the results of this.

Yea it isn't a perfect plan but i gotta appreciate the attempt, obviously the issues don't stem from the music but it's w/o a doubt igniting the problem & there has to be more acknowledgement of it

Yeah, people don't want to admit that the music influence the youth, but trust me, it does. Perfect example of this would be the Ensure song :smh:

Came across a Drill song the other day from a relatively new artist, that is quite literally mocking the stabbing death of a 14 yr old in song AND Dance. Dudes are imitating stabbing themselves to mock shorty

**** is going viral on Tiktok Song had damn near a milli in a day, this **** is Wicked

China has been on this wave.

Still 3% more murders than the US but that's prolly da gubment / Communism.

Justice system punishment tied for #1 with the US.

Jamaica higher than US & China:

While it's good statistical numbers to have Chinese culture & american culture are so vastly different idk how much that helps explain things

"Scarface the movie did more than scarface the rapper to me"

Based on this logic tiktok and how the industry works now is more of an issue than the music. Take away tiktok some of the most popular songs regardless of genre/content wouldn't go far. Even Drake used a Shiggy Dance stimulus package.

yes, lets blame the problems of jamaica on the yutes making music, lets not examine our relationship with our colonizers in UK, the lack of the fact we havent built a new school or hospital in decades, our continual sanctions by the IMF (and those who sold out the island)

yes guys lets place the blame on the kids making music about their reality, thats it.

WE ARE SO STUPID ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY ANYMORE |l

While you have a point, the tunes that they are making is influencing the youths heavily. You'd be lying to say it hasn't. The ensure song have school kids filming themselves doing foolishness and throwing it on social media. Cool like mi wash mi face wid di cake soap helped fuel a snowball effect of bleaching amongst the youths. Fully dunce have cats ready to crash out over foolishness. The music is influencing the youth and not in a good way.

With all that being said, it isn't at the top of the list of problems that need to be tackled, but it needs some reigning in. People just voicing anything these days and putting out and calling it "music".

but that's something that could be said for any marginalized groups of people (particularly black people) we shouldnt be tackling arts and free speech and saying thats the root cause of our problems.

I didn’t say it’s the root of the problem. However it is one of the problems. You want your schoolaz son or daughter singing ensure song? I don’t even know if there is a age restriction on content in Jamaica and if it is, it doesn’t appear to be enforced.

nobody in here ever stated that that's the root of the issues, it's just another branch of toxic values used to suppress people. and the issue behind that is that are arts and speech have always been used to speak truth & knowledge until it gets bastardized by the "entertainment industry" and suddenly the more popular certain sounds & images are showcased

Hmmmm…. Society as a WHOLE promotes violent music, people don’t want R&B music… they don’t want conscious rap (they don’t want the de la souls, tribes, the roots, etc)….

Then they want to cry about violence? It’s a such a cop out. We live in a lackluster society currently. People are aloof, desensitized and have low attention spans. The causation is not the music. Again, people want the violent music, they don’t want consciousness, R&B, jazz, etc so who’s really to blame? It’s the parents, the elders and they fans
