I didn't mention fighting a police officer. I was speaking to fighting civilians. That has nothing to do with ego, it has everything to do with self preservation. She spits, she has a disease, she has assaulted you, and you have a right to defend yourself AND holding her until law enforcement arrives. Laws vary from state to state, and this is the law in NYC. Fighting the cops requires a different approach.
I used fighting a police officer as an example since you are talking about speaking with lawyers and officers about legality of self defense. Sure legally you can defend yourself, but I find it hard to believe that you can look at the situation from the outside and say that a black person beating up a white person when the police arrive on the scene is certainly going to work out in the black person's favor. Police arrive on the scene and see a scuffle of a black person on a white person we all know that black person is going to catch fists, batons, or a bullet.
And it does have to do with ego, self preservation can be running as well. Fight or flight right? Again, how do you think cops will react to you holding a white woman down on the ground and she's screaming and crying? I'm not buying you think cops will run on scene and consider the state's laws?
