Hate to break it to you, but Dubai is becoming a ghost town....

No one knows how bad things have become, though it is clear that tens of thousands have left, real estate prices have crashed and scores of Dubai's major construction projects have been suspended or canceled. But with the government unwilling to provide data, rumors are bound to flourish, damaging confidence and further undermining the economy.

Cars like ford and toyota are supposed to be really cheap over there. If your ever in the neighborhood you should check it out.

I hope this country and its sheikhs sink in the quick desert sand, along with all the other royal monarchies in the Gulf.

interesting article. unfortunately i feel like the whole servant situation can go on in just about any country, including our own. that country is settingitself up for failure, the fact they own 107 of their gdp is horrifiably scary.

If you are born into these families you can pretty much buy whatever you want whenever you want, money is nothing. The other 95% of Dubai lives nothing like the oil families and is poor. The oil is running out compared to the more oil rich lands else where in the middle east. All their eggs are in one basket, no oil....no more money. A few years back they decided to diversify and a make Dubai into a tourist destination. Lavish hotels, in door ski resorts, some of the worlds largest and most extravagant malls, high rise condos and million dollar real estate development etc etc. However most all of this construction has been put to a halt, the economy crashed as you know, people are not traveling like they used to, and people from USA and Europe are definitely not buying million dollar 3rd and fourth homes in the sand. Not to mention all of the construction and maintenance on these lavish buildings is being done by slave labor, mostly northern Africans who are tricked into going to Dubai in promise of a job, only to find them being held against their will and forced into slavery. The irony of anyone who is African American in here posting, "dang i wanna live in dubai..it looks sick!!", is well....irony lol.

The oil family runs the show and whatever they say goes. It is not at all what it seems.

Shame on people from Australia or Britain that laugh at slavery. Dubai is a dirty place.

The oil money is running out hence the shift to tourism and attracting clients from the West to fill those buildings they are constructing. Dubaiis headed for an epic fail.

My cousin goes a few times a year for business. He says its amazing but its too ridiculously hot which kills the social life over there. He also tells me thatthey're arrogant as he.ll and think they're above everyone.

I'll be there one day to see for myself.
