F1 Official Thread - Grand Prix of Britain

Is there a better angle?

What a shambles though - it's happened before and the fact that they're giving that car a significant penalty is ridiculous.

Sky broadcast only had replays of the onboard replay.

Yeah, I know the race is here to stay. :smh:

At a minimum for a decade what people are saying

I wish they would move this **** to Pahrump. So race around the trailer parks, brothels, and Trump merch stores

Drivers would still get an authentic Nevada experience

And do it during a 120 degree day also.

I can't even begin to imagine the amount of disruption this has caused the locals... and while the race is only this weekend, I'm sure the ruckus has going on for weeks, if not months.

The fans don't seem to like it, the locals hate it, while the attendees seems to be having an awful time so far. What a damn mess.

The worst part about this, is that Vegas is such a perfect place to host such an event. They constantly get massive crowds for various events throughout the year. It’s a great place to visit as a tourist for a short stay as well. They should have just put the track elsewhere in the area. Put it in downtown ****s up so much ****.

Despite all of this chaos and poor planning, I think we’re gonna get a good race!

Started April 1st and now they’re telling us 8 weeks after for the cleanup…That’s about 9 and a half months dedicated to a single three day event…For another city that might not hang on tourism dollars maybe something like that can be worked out, but for Vegas? Not so much…

There’s countless shows that shuttered for the week, restaurants who physically can’t get customers into their restaurant, gas stations who’ve had all vehicle access to their property blocked off…That’s not to mention the regular non F1 visitors, who support the city the other 11 months and 3 weeks out of the year, absolutely won’t bring their dollars back to the city as a result…There’s actually a condo complex that had been complaining for months, that the access points to their property were being cutoff so that the residents couldn’t enter or leave while this event was happening…F1 / the Clark County Commission only just addressed that complaint about 3 weeks ago and forced them (The property owners) to spend a few hundred thousand to install a new gate for access…I mean the list goes on and on…

The slant that all the negativity is from pissy locals who’ve had their commutes to work extended (Which is absolutely a valid complaint), is really just the tip of the iceberg…The local media won’t report on the negatively and everyone from F1 / Clark County have just essentially shrugged and told everybody to deal with it this whole time…

AND Vegas hosts events that bring in three times more people than this one, all of which leave a footprint a fraction of a fraction of the size this is leaving…Hell, we have conventions that bring in more people than this did…It’s just an absolutely bad look for the city all the way around…The drivers don’t seem to be happy, the fans who paid to watch and got kicked out to avoid OT for the workers aren’t happy, and the locals sure as **** aren’t happy…Once the numbers for the week roll in I guarantee you the Casino Corps won’t be happy…The only people who are happy is Liberty Media Corp Execs…

The last thing I’ll say is this…I’ve worked Casino Surveillance for the last 20 years…While I can’t say which property because of NDA’s, safe to say it’s within the perimeter of the race course…This week is easily the slowest, business wise, we’ve seen since we reopened following the COVID shutdowns…

9 months is wild. I know with Miamis race, it’s really only 5 months of setup/tear down

Otmar has the most unintentionally funny account.

All he’s missing is a “GRWM” post or a Lululemon try on/ haul video.

What a dumpster fire of an event. I also don't like the start times because they are late for east coast and I have kids to deal with. Guess I'll just have to record everything. Teams were complaining about the temps and concerned with tire temps.

i don't even have kids to deal with AND i'm home visiting the parents for the holidays and i'm not staying up until 3am for that ****, man :lol

i'll watch it in the AM on demand. probably gonna be 13 red flags with all the track issues going on anyway :lol

Somebody is going to go that construction cone on turn 14 at some point or another this weekend.

This GP was always going to have a lot of hate. From the moment it was listed on the calendar people were already saying it was the “worst GP ever” 😂. I think next year and years to follow will be more organized and a better race for the city with better planning. This was a trial run. A midnight qualifying session is wild tho

I don't wanna judge this race before it's even happened... but there were already so many red flags leading up to this weekend.
The excessive pricing, the various lengths the organizers went to block the views of the track, the overhype from all the F1 media outlets, the disruption to the locals and so on... and then we had the fiasco with the track not being ready, followed by fans getting kicked out. To make matters worse, their 'sorry, not sorry' statement was a kick in the teeth to the fans. $200 of credit for your own merch??? Are you ****ing me??? All that money ends up in your pockets... show some sincerity, FFS. 🙄

The race tomorrow might end up being fantastic... and the F1 media will do all they can to steer that narrative, but many fans won't forget about this mess. 🤷‍♂️

Meanwhile...
