I WANT TO ENCOURAGE A MORE CONSTRUCTIVE DISCUSSION OVER RACE RELATIONS ON NT

That's why this from Ksteezy:
Makes no sense. Otherwise what is he arguing about?

I think he has the point of view as most latinos. We understand we have African roots, just as we have roots to Spaniards and the Natives. I don't identify as a black man or White man though. Not a light skinned black man or a dark skinned black man. I identify as Latino.

Sounds like ya'll are equating skin color to culture, which is a very American thing to do.

lol at Cuba, country doesn't mean ****.  Cameron Diaz is cuban and so is Christina Milian.  **** theres black ppl from China and white ppl from china.  Country aint got **** to do with race

We also want him to stop hypocritically calling others black.
Yeah this is a good point.

If ninja and other Hispanics don't want to identify as black but Latino then they have absolutely no right to use the eye test themselves and identify anybody else as black or white for that matter.

If your parents are White Africans and you are born in America are you African American ?

The funny **** is that you ****** are acting like you're being so unique and independent by rejecting a label created by the US Census...but you act like YOU created the term "latino". The same ************* that created the label "black" come from the same got damn place as the ppl that created the word "latino"

It's a european term...but you ****** are soooooooooo adamant in distancing yourselves from the word "black" that you willingly embrace another term created by your oppressors.

You ****** are silly man

N's thinking I'm with JuJu because I'm in love She ain't black, man, she Cuban, her mother the plug
This might be part of the problem as well, getting your knowledge of genealogy from rappers.

O’Brien, a married mother of four, and daughter of a black Cuban woman and a white Australian man of Irish descent. “They say ‘I don’t want to have these conversations about race when I’m getting my cappuccino.’ … Well, I don’t want to have these conversations about race either. … But I have this conversation all the time. I have it when someone says to me, ‘You’re not really black’, or ‘You speak so well for being black’ or ‘If you’re Latino, you can’t be black.’ Black and Latino people have these conversations all the time.

there is a need for more people to take classes in what we commonly call ‘African-American Studies’ but is actually the history of America that just happens to be about black people. … There were a number of white and Asian students who when we talked about the lynching study [an examination of the details of nearly 4,000 lynching in 12 states from 1877 to 1950 conducted by the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Ala.], really had no idea that America had this long and bloody history of lynching. It was absolutely stunning to them. They were hearing it for the first time ever as relatively well-educated college students … that lynching wasn’t just this fringe thing but part of the history of America.

But he's not though.

He can't tell you a thing about black or african culture. He will tell you about Dominican culture because that's what he's brought up to know.

FTR, I'm dominican as well. To me Ninjahood is Dominican...not black.

Period. End. Of. Sentence.

Well. Being of African, Spanish, Native, is unique matter, no?
By this logic, all of social construct is silly but what good would this thread be then.....

What is Black or African Culture? Africa is a giant continent with a bunch of countries with different cultures in it. We all know this is where life started and this is where all of us come from. Any Dominican, Cuban, whatever the **** culture has ROOTS in Africa. It's not like they got dropped off on these islands and just started doing completely new ****.

I'm not sure how that speaks to what I said at all.

I'm looking for a simple answer to this question.

Why do you willingly reject one label...and accept the other...when they come from the same people?

idk what black or african culture is. you're asking the wrong person. I won't deny the african roots. That's the most I can say.
