Seems pretty obvious that "black" is merely a vague and non-descript term for a persons skin tone, mainly, and historically, as compared to a white persons skin tone. It has evolved over time to have certain meanings and connotations in different parts of the world and in different cultures. Thats why this thread is 52 pages, cause everyone wants to argue what it means in their mind, from their perspective and life experience. In reality, it simply means you have a dark skin tone, everything else is just semantics.
Having said that, dark latinos/hispanics distancing themselves from the classification due to a negative view of African Americans is a thing. Which is the root of the NH shade on this particular subject.
