Jobless and Frustrated NTers check in VOL. WE NOT-WORKIN!!!

I had an interview 2 Fridays ago after applying to a job on indeed. They took down the job posting after i applied

Its in my field and it's only 20 mins away. They sent me an email after the interview and it had a postcard in there that i had to redesign (it's for a graphic designer job)

Sent it about 4 days later but my interviewer was on vacation until today. Just hope she sees it and calls me back in Soon for the 2nd interview. She already said she likes my style of design

This job would be perfect for the kid
sounds awesome ... don't forget to do the follow up. Sometimes that can make the difference.

You think a Friday follow up would be good?

I want to give her some time to get caught up with her work, but at the same time not be a pest

It's been two weeks? I'd do a follow up thank you letter now.

Yeah...Friday is the latest I would do it. While I'm sure she will need to catch up on work you don't want to fall to the wayside. I typically, like to do a follow up that builds from the interview (ie: maybe an idea talked about, etc) or in your case since a workproduct sample was requested perhaps building off of it -- ie:

""....Found myself reflecting on the [sample] submitted , and I was hoping to get some feedback. I am always looking to submit my best workproduct and to ensure the client is equally pleased, and feedback is an important tool I use as a part of my creative process...."

I've found that this type of follow up keeps the interviewer from dismissing me out of hand by saying -- you are still under consideration -- and it allows me to continue to sell myself to the interviewer on the skills that are my strong skillsets and because you have already had the interview then you have a keen insight on what you can upsell and is of concern to the interviewer.

Thanks dude
I was denied because I didn't make enough money at my previous job apparently.
At least that's what it said on the letter I received

that sucks...it happens particularly with wage based as versus salary based jobs. It happened to my brother-in-law (who was at a big box electronic store) and with the uptick in 'seasonal' workers the hours were stretched thin and of course when the holiday season was over and the store did well but not well enough he found himself let go. When he went to apply for unemployment insurance he found he didn't have enough clockhours to meet the requirement for his state. SMH.

Tips for anyone who may be trying to get their foot in the door on that side? I've got a masters in public admin and I'm finishing up some grant writing certifications at UGA. Would really like to get into a nonprofit by the year's end.

weird. i only went to 1 interview with the GM and he hired me on the spot and started the following week. which position are you applying for? I used to be the inventory specialist. probably the best position IMO.

the other departments within the store besides geek squad have a very weird tasks. They pretty much have to keep track of sales as if they make commission but really dont. one thing my coworkers at the time told me how they want to work the warehouse instead because of so much pressure from the assistant manager and GM. overall it is a GREAT environment if you work with the right people. I would love to go back but the crew i used to work with in warehouse is no longer there and they made me look forward to all of my shifts all the time.

I thought it was pretty weird too, 1st interview I had was with a team lead, not a manager.
So today I went in and met with an actual manager.
I'm applying for a customer service specialist position, so maybe that's why?
How long ago did you work for the company?

In part this will depend on your market, when I was looking to move to VA there was not a cohesive nonprofit community so it made it difficult to find employment. if you are/ or will be in a market without a strongly connected nonprofit community then I  would suggest this will be about a numbers games -- identifying nonprofits in the area, regardless if they are looking to hire submit inquiries, and doing a whole lot of networking.

If there is a strong nonprofit community you are looking at then it will be about putting together a great package. Nonprofits tend to need individuals who are strong across expertise areas -- ie: executives who can write well, program people who are also great with reporting, etc. Think about the cross areas you are strong in and from that make a consistent message for your cover letter, resume, and follow up correspondences.

So after giving it some thought if you decide you are a well rounded admin who is knowledgable on programming evalution components....I would suggest your coverletter should focus on this as the reason why the nonprofit should select you, and all examples on it will swing back to this as well as your resume will bolster this idea through your selected bullet points.

CSS would have you up at the main register by yourself (depending on how big the store is) or right at the customer service desk by Geek Squad (which gets quite busy). I was hired on 5/28/15 and i showed up on my very last day on Black Friday of November '15. Needless to say it was a great last day and black friday experience working for one of the busiest stores in the black Friday industry lol. What i did before i clocked out that day would have all yall in disbelief. I wish my phone wasnt dead at the time smh!!!!

Graduated in May, this is month number 4 I've been unemployed. Working on my networking certs to boost my resume but I'm gonna need some money in my pocket soon

3rd interview to work at Best Buy? Damn, it's hard out there while retail is dying a slow death.
