**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

FiveThirtyEight called us out for having the worst line-up in the league last season (D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram and Larry Nance, Jr.)

WORST LINEUP
Los Angeles Lakers’ youth

On the one hand, it’s frustrating that the Lakers have to sell off their best young players in order to get out from under contracts that were bad news from the moment they were signed. On the other hand, hoo boy, those young players really, really didn’t play well when they were all on the court together.

D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram and Larry Nance, Jr. played 108 minutes across 20 games this season — not a huge sample, but not quite nothing, either. By pure net rating, they were the second worst lineup in the league (-28.3 points per 100 possessions), trailing an especially grim configuration of Sacramento Kings. But it’s not so much the margin that was demoralizing about the group as it was the humiliating way in which it was run up.

Out of 103 non-free-throw scoring plays against this Lakers’ lineup, 24 were dunks. (For comparison’s sake, the league-average team would figure to allow 10.3 dunks for every 103 buckets.) Not mere layups, not simple wide-open shots — dunks! A quarter of all points from the floor scored on the Lakers’ Team Of The Future were on dunks, as though the goal of the defense was to corral the opposing team into the most efficient route possible on the way to the rim.

How do "claiming players off waivers work?"

Like if D.Wade is bought out, can we "claim him off waivers"  Makes no sense to tank next year so might as well see what our games will look like with real players.

Admittedly I have no idea what that means.

Once a player gets bought out by team the waiver process goes by team with the worst record and cap space that can submit a claim.

So Brooklyn, Philly, Phoenix, and us would all have an opportunity to claim him. If he makes it through all of us and the rest of the teams he clears waivers and becomes a free agent.

thanks

we should claim him if bought out.  Perfect one year rental.  A vet to teach our guys about being a professional and avoiding herpes

I went to Raw earlier this year when my friend took his nephews.

Weird people at those things.

I walked out after the first match and just sipped some beers in the hallway :lol

Y'all crazy if you think he'll suit up anywhere else but Cleveland if he's bought out

Pretty positive Wade said he doesn't care about chasing rings anymore. Which is partly why he went to Chicago in the first place. He just wanted his money. LA seems like the perfect 'lifestyle' for where he is right now.

And he has his money. He's getting paid this yr no matter what.

If he gets bought out or waived, it'll be because he wants to get out of that situation.

Why go from rebuilding Bulls to the rebuilding Lakers?

Exactly.

Clippers have a slight chance as well if they stay together and he wants to come to LA...

He ain't wasting a minute on a team that's not a contender... regardless of how the rules work :lol
