Next years an election year.  The government knows exactly what their doing.  99% of the country's population lives in poverty, and the north is literally burning, so what do you do?

Distract people.  Make them think you're looking out for their interests.

Persecute the easiest target -- someone everyone, everywhere can get behind hating -- gays.

Because this should take priority over stopping the people bombing prisons and letting out convicts like Batman cartoons.  Or running into schools with machine guns and machetes -- regularly.

Lack of education, resources  and religious and traditional condemnation of condom use is the reason for a high HIV rate in Africa. But I guess it's easy to blame homosexuals.

The first part of your statement is true...the 2nd part...not so much.

In the U.S. HIV/AIDS is higher among homosexual men no matter race or socioeconomic class.
