**Official 2010 NY knicks pre-season thread** 10/6 vs T-wolves (PARIS) 2PM MSG/NBA TV

@$%% these reports ab melo, dude has a year left to make his decision. We don't have Larry Hughes, Jerome James, Malik Rose, and Chris Duhon anymore. We've got young talent and Amare to look forward to and discuss this season. Yes, we all are hoping for melo+paul obviously, but we no longer have a squad of trash like we did waiting for 2010 when all we discussed was the summer of 2010 for 2-3 years. This is different because now we actually have a team that mike and Donnie assembled instead of a team of expiring contracts.

Ok this is what i don't understand...

Melo has a contract offer from Nuggets right now..

Let's say the new CBA is terrible, would he be able to pick up the offer from the Nuggets because it was offered before the CBA was announced.

or its off the table onces the new CBA is announced?

And how wouls we be able to sign him next season ?
We would be able to sign him cuz Curry comes off the books and a bunch of other 1 year contracts we don't have to resign or we can release their bird rights, sign Melo, and then sign them back.

If the CBA is terrible (which is still millions of dollars) we'd still be able to sign him to w/e the max is/a lot of money although the years might be reduced.

So i see now...

Team Option for 2011
Gallo - $4.1M
Randolph - $2.9M
Douglas - $1.1M
Walker - $916K

Player Option
Turiaf - $4M

Qualifying Offer
Chandler - $3M

Expiring
Curry $11.2M expiring

So that's $24M off our cap before we offer Melo a contract or pick up any of our options.

Sad to say but we should probably trade Turiaf for an expiring..
grin.gif
He has a $4M player option..

We get rid of Turiaf before the deadline and we can sign back most of our players

might be a lil off if we have to renounce rights... correct me if i'm wrong

I mean ideally if we don't want to continue this waiting for player ___ next year. We'd offer Gallo an extension before the new CBA, sign Tony Parker and sign Melo. Consider trading Felton if we haven't got a legit SG by then.

I agree with trading for another big/semi-big expiring contract if we can.

dont forget azubuike makes 3.3M coming off the books... hopefully they can trade ronnie at the deadline though...we would still have enough money to get melo with curry expiring and azubuike but they cant sign chandler to a QO and make him walk

We wont really get a good look of what our books will look like till after the trade deadline. Like someone else said, Melo has a whole year to sign the extension.

not a knicks fan but I would love CP3 and Melo to join the knicks to compete against the heat. That would be sick!
Warkentien Could Be Candidate In New York
Aug 04, 2010 7:46 AM EST

The Nuggets let general manager Mark Warkentien go on Tuesday and he is expected to be a candidate for the job in New York should Donnie Walsh decide to make a hire.

The New York Post reported recently that Warkentien, a friend of Walsh's, had a preliminary interview with the Knicks last summer after being given permission by the Nuggets owner.

Seems like almost every GM is a candidate for next Knicks GM but Donnie has kinda hinted he's not hiring. He's either waiting for a specific GM good enough to take the helm or is gonna wait for Houston.

if mello really wants to win as a knick, he plays out the rest of the season and we sign him outright. that way we get to keep our core.

#!%%%$! new CBA will somehow screw us

/\ Nuggets won't wait that long...if they don't have a clear message that he's re-signing...they'll trade him. They're not getting LeBron'd.

Who cares if he gets traded mid-season?  That won't change his contract situation, he'll still be an FA next summer.

Hope carmelo just comes out and says he's not resigning, but wouldn't Denver still have the last say on which team he gets traded too because he's still under contract?
