what are you looking for man? some pro bowler who's gonna play at a high level for a few years cheaply then yield way to our QB of the future?Originally Posted by kwh3
Am I the only one that thinks we need a better stop-gap than Bulger? I know the options are limited, but for the 49ers to be in on him as seemingly a first resort worries me a bit.

No. I'd love a better Stop gap than Bulger. I think the majority of his stats were inflated due to the fact he played with Holt and Bruce. That being said I'd take him over Smith. were not really in a great situation to be picky. I have a feeling they go defense with the first couple of picks so were going to need a FA.Originally Posted by kwh3

What did he do for Luck and Johnson? You've got to be $*%!%@# kidding me. If you're seriously asking that, my response won't even matter. I'm done.
The point/question I was trying to make/ask, which you quickly decided to dismiss, was that Harbaugh really hasnt done anything in terms of NFL success. Luck turned into one of the best prospects in a long time, BUT its not like he wasnt a highly recruited player out of high school (who was known for pinpoint accuracy prior to Harbaugh working with him).
All I was asking was where is this track record? Does he have a track record of taking a bad veteran NFL QB who has horrible mechanics/habits and making him into a winning NFL QB? No he doesnt. Thats all I'm saying.
And to respond to your smartass comment about people thinking we know more about QBs than Harbaugh does, NO, I clearly dont. But I have witnessed first hand the garbage play that Alex has shown for 6 years. He isnt a good QB. Maybe Harbaugh can turn him into a serviceable QB....I have faith he can do that. But I dont want a serviceable QB. I want a good/great one.

Free Agents/Notable Available QB's
Carson Palmer
Macr Bulger
Bruce Gradkowski
Donovan Mcnabb
Kevin Kolb
Matt Hasselbeck
Brady Quinn
Trent Edwards
Matt Leinart
Who on the list stands out besides Kevin Kolb who I think we all know isn't coming here.

I guess it's just not a good offseason to need a QB. Comparing apples and oranges really. I'd prefer Hasselbeck.

Taking Harbaugh at his word is fine. But there is a huge difference between me and Harbaugh. When I say my opinion publicly, I never have a hidden agenda I need to follow. I never have to be politically correct. I dont have an entire professional sports franchise behind me that my words reflect. I can just be honest. Im not saying Jimmy isnt being honest. Its just that you cant assume he is saying what he is saying about Smith because thats his honest opinion. Maybe he likes Smith a lot, but maybe he doesnt and he is just trying to say the right things.Originally Posted by KingJames23

His track record is grooming young QBs and being able to coach the position. What he did for Luck and Johnson is proof of that.
You dismiss what Harbaugh did because "Luck was good out of HS". Like there was no progression and that Luck had to choice but to be good. Would you like the list of top players who failed due to poor coaching? I don't care how good you were in HS. When you are being labeled as the best prospect since Peyton, the coaches clearly did something right.
How about what he did for Josh Johnson?
Harbaugh wants to keep him, you do not. When people have vastly differing conclusions someone is right and someone is wrong. Why should I think you're right vs Harbaugh?
I want a billion dollars but it isn't gonna happen. Who is out there in FA that is great? If there is one in the draft Trent will draft them, if not we'll wait and can take a guy like Stanzi/Dalton and move from there.
i don't know if Harbaugh is just talking up Alex since he's stuck with him but I will trust him and take him at his word.
