Official Dallas Mavericks vs. OKC Thunder (WCF) Thread. Dallas Mavericks Western Conference Champs

Destroyed Rondo in Boston and took that game with no KD or JG. His lack of ability to shot/score, even free throws would make him a TERRIBLE fit anyways.

Destroyed DWill in Utah (held him to 11) and sent him off the court shaking his head, yelling at Sloan

Destroyed CP3 (although Chris played well himself, just not in 4th qrtrs) leaving him forced to answer questions about it in the postgame

Played Rose relatively even, slightly winning the matchup overall if you want to go by averages on it

I won't even bother commenting on Nash given our entire team minus 2 guys are in their 20s, in fact starting lineup is 22,26,22,21,26.

So again, if you're not giving me CP3, Dwill, or Rose but you want Westbrook, I'm not listening. These games that lead to everyone calling for his head aren't even THAT bad, and there are other pgs out there getting away with worst with no/less criticism, but that doesn't change the fact we wouldn't be in this position without Westbrook, postseason included.

People were already talking about how he's a top 5 PG-worthy....I think at the very least we can put that to rest until he improves. He (and his numbers) highly benefits from playing with one of the league's best players; I don't think that can be denied.

He is definitely still learning very basic PG skills, but can you name 5 that are better?
Two spotty series don't drop you in the rankings.  Besides, OKC ain't getting the 4th seed without Westbrook for the season.
in no order: Rose, CP3, DWill, Rondo, Nash.
It's funny cuz one guy has similar problems to Russ as far weaknesses go, one guy puts his team's offense at a disadvantage by getting defended 5 on 4, and the other guy like one aforementioend plays no defense.

CP3 is untouchable as a pg. The best Rondo can hope for is a late career transition like Kidd had. No one predicted he would learn the outside shot like he has.

Let's not just throw out the term "great" loosely. Isiah Thomas was great. Magic Johnson was great. Westbrook is a very good young player. It's amazing how good he is considering how raw he is. The only way I'm even considering a trade for him is if Paul (and I'm worried about the knee) and Dwight. Otherwise, I'm good with a 22-year old All-Star PG.

The 4 point play at the end of the third.

Dirk being stupid and letting Harden make the layup AND fouling him.

Tyson and Marion both missed about 4 gimme's.

Our backup bigs just didn't do anything.

We gave up SO many easy buckets right in the lane..

Turnovers really hurt too. 12 isn't an extraordinary amount, but we're a team that takes pride in taking caring of the basketball and having great ball movement.

Tonight in the second half, OKC was just too much. Props to them for not giving up and fighting back. We didn't lose the game, yall won it.

Gonna be tough to watch OKC get a free ride to the FT line when we're on the road.
dog how u gonna say good game thunder and then proceed to disrespect this team?

The whole 4th he was right there with Nate jumping around and laughing, celebrating, first to run on the court and celebrate with his teammates during dead balls.

I'd take that Howard trade by the way too, but I still don't think Maynor is a starting caliber pg, and no I don't want Nelson back. With Maynor, you still lack the defense, rebounding, speed/athleticism, and overall toughness of Westbrook. Plus Westbrook still kills other big name pgs in regular season matchups. I don't think that can be overstated enough. He comes to play those games, leaves dudes like DWill literally walking off the court shaking their head in anguish (like a game before the alleged blowup that ended Sloan's career too) or like CP3 forced to answer ?s in postgame about why can't you guard Russell Westbrook.

Maynor would just be lunch to those kats, not to mention at this point we have no backup because no doubt Nate is bouncing after this season.

These dudes have played together their whole career (minus the 1yr prior KD was in the league of course), then the FIBAs, no way a "bad" game here and there is splitting them up.

Plus, it's a much more complex problem than just Russ taking bad shots but nobody's trying to hear it so it's no need even getting into it.
Co-sign people jumping way too hard on Rus, He's still only 22 years old.

I really am anticipating Russ' upcoming great game coupled with Durant and Harden going off overwhelming the Mavs just so ppl can be quiet.

Russell has to realize that this is Durant's team and that he's just playing on it. Brooks did what he was supposed to do when someone thinks they are better than the team, sit them down. He was still fuming when they were winning and won. He's selfish and it shows in his play on the court. I don't know what his problem is but ever since he came back from repping Team USA, he thinks he's better than he is. Sitting there running his mouth on the sideline. Sit down and shut up. Brooks taught him a necessary lesson tonight.

Truth.
It's really simple. He's not a point guard. Great player, great guard, but he has problems getting people involved. The only reason why it's working so well is because Harden is the perfect compliment to RW. With that being said, RW better not torpedo his value at the expense of getting "his" because that will come back to haunt him.

KD's being really nice and humble plays into this as well. It's your team. Put your foot down.

I don't think anybody's denying the skill Russ has, but as a PG with a Guy like kd on your team, you gotta know your boundaries
