One year after saying he wanted out of Chicago during a contract impasse, Lance Briggs has decided he wants to be a Bear for the next several years.
Briggs has agreed to a six-year deal with the Bears that includes approximately $12 million in guaranteed money, sources have told FOXSports.com.
The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker was looking for a huge payday after being given the franchise tag last year. There were even reports a deal was in place between Briggs and the San Francisco 49ers, but when free agency began that proved not to be the case.

Wow did not see Briggs re-signing with the Bears at all. Oakland fans what yall think about Chris Clemons? I see he had 8 sacks but never particularly watchedhim play. Is this a good signing for the Eagles?

finch hes been there no. 1 the last 2 years...the kids got speed no doubt and he makes some good and even great catches at times but he runs the wrong routetoo often, gives up on routes because he didnt think the qb was gonna throw him the ball...hes just not worth the type of money he just received is all imsaying...he will never be a pro bowler and with the vikings qb situation its not like hes got a great qb throwin him the ball either their qb situation is nobetter then chicagos...thats all i know...but the bears keepin briggs is the best news so far this off season i was afraid they wouldnt ante up for him...wecouldnt take another loss like that since we GAVE the jets thomas jones last year

Haven't heard of dude or seen him play, but he should address the LE position to complement Trent Cole.

wow @ briggs, I wonder if the whole thing last year was to deceive the organization?

Supposedly teams didn't want to go after Briggs thinking he was just a product of the Bears system. Plus he was asking for too much $$$
Bills acquire DT Stroud in trade with Jaguars
Associated Press

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Bills acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud in a trade with Jacksonville on Saturday in Buffalo's latest and most significant move to revamp its porous defense.

In exchange, the Bills gave up an undisclosed number of draft picks.

Stroud, listed at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, immediately solidifies a defensive line that also features pass-rushing end Aaron Schobel. And the seven-year veteran improves a defense that finished 31st in the NFL in yards allowed last season.

The move was completed after the Bills began revamping their defense on Friday, the first day of NFL free agency. That's when Buffalo signed linebacker Kawika Mitchell to a five-year deal and released veteran defensive tackle Larry Tripplett.

In another move Saturday, the Bills signed former Minnesota defensive tackle Spencer Johnson to a five-year contract.

"It's certainly been an exhilarating 36 hours," Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon said, introducing both Stroud and Spencer at a press conference. "We're certainly excited about what's transpired. ... We feel this is a significant day in Buffalo Bills history."

The Bills are coming off their second consecutive 7-9 season and have missed the playoffs for eight straight years -- the longest drought in franchise history.

Stroud is scheduled to make $16.5 million in base salary over the final three years of his contract. He had the Jaguars' permission to seek a trade and arrived in Buffalo on Friday to meet with team executives and take a physical.

It's not clear whether Stroud's contract will be restructured as part of the deal.

Stroud is coming off a troubled season in which he finished on injured reserve. He missed the final three games after re-injuring his surgically repaired right ankle, an injury that hobbled him at the end of the 2006 season.

Stroud also served a four-game NFL suspension for violating the league's steroids and related substances policy. The player acknowledged he took supplements to help recover from the ankle operation.

"That's all last year, it's already in the past," Stroud said. "I want to show the guys I've got a lot left in the tank."

At his best, Stroud is the type of dominating presence the Bills could use to shore up the middle of their defense, which struggled against the run and had difficulty applying pressure.

Jacksonville's 2001 first-round draft pick out of Georgia, Stroud played an integral role in helping the Jaguars defense become one of the stingiest -- especially against the run -- over the past few years. Stroud had three sacks last season and 22 overall in 100 games.

Johnson's signing was overshadowed by Stroud's arrival.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 286 pounds, Johnson has spent the past four seasons with the Vikings. He played in all 16 games this past season, finishing with 24 tackles and three sacks. In 49 career NFL games, Johnson has 108 tackles and four sacks.

The Bills might not be done adding players, yet.

Free-agent receiver Bryant Johnson and tight end Ben Troupe are both scheduled to visit with the Bills on Sunday, according to their agent, Joel Segal.

Buffalo is looking to upgrade both positions, and the 6-foot-3 Johnson is regarded as the type of tall and fast receiver the Bills hope to land to take pressure off Lee Evans.

Troupe played sparingly for Tennessee in 2007, catching only five balls for 47 yards. He had a career-high 55 receptions in 2005 for the Titans.

The Bills have just one veteran tight end, Robert Royal, on their roster.

Yes, he had 8 sacks, but he's a situational pass rusher. Like 3rd down only type of pass rusher, BUT he is very effective at it. He's not going to helpyou defend the run especially at 6'1'' 240.
I wouldn't be surprised if you guys had him play some linebacker. But all in all, I think he should go well along with Trent Cole.

I guess this is pay back for getting Derrick Burgess from you guys. Lol. It's all good though.

Faneca to the Jets. Sorry Alan, just not in the Steelers future plans, he did not have a great year last year (even though he somehow made the Pro Bowl). Asfor Donte, that could be a good pickup for the Browns, but he didn't show much last year and I don't know how great of a WR he is. Still will be betterthan nothing for Cleveland opposite of Edwards. Cleveland has made some moves and could make a good push for the division. Considering the Steelers have thetoughest schedule next year, I think it will be a 2nd place "transition" year until another push for a 6th title

what can miami get for JT ? 2nd rounder ?

edit : Parcells claims he's staying
Parcells discounts talk of Taylor's departure, expects Pro Bowler to return
Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that defensive end Jason Taylor will be playing for Miami in 2008 unless he chooses to retire, contrary to a published report.

Taylor

Yahoo Sports reported Saturday night that Taylor, an 11-year veteran who has played all of his 172 career games for the Dolphins, would be parting ways with Miami this offseason before the NFL draft this April.

"This latest report is just another example of journalistic irresponsibility," Parcells told Mortensen.

Taylor, a six-time Pro Bowler who was the NFL's defensive player of the year in 2006, had 11 sacks last season for the woeful Dolphins.

In 2007, Miami suffered through a 1-15 season. They hired Parcells to run their football operations in December.

With no deal close with the New England Patriots, Randy Moss continues to explore all options in his first professional exposure to free agency.

ESPN.com's Matt Mosley, Mike Sando and Pat Yasinskas are following the NFL free-agency frenzy and sharing their thoughts. Get the latest news from the always updated Hashmarks.

On Saturday night, he came up with an interesting idea. He reached out to Daunte Culpepper, his former quarterback with the Minnesota Vikings. The two former teammates discussed the possibility of finishing what they started in Minnesota on any NFL team interested.

Though their relationship ended a little rocky when Moss left the Vikings to go to the Raiders in a trade, Moss and Culpepper stayed in touch with each other and stayed friends. They joked that at some point they might be free agents at the same time and might have a chance to unite. As Moss spent his second day in unrestricted free agency Saturday, he started to think about Culpepper, who also is a free agent. What they had talked about for years all of a sudden was true.

Don't necessarily confuse this as a package deal. It's an option for teams looking for a quarterback and a wide receiver and solving both needs at the same time.

Moss

At the age of 30, Moss has accomplished everything except getting a Super Bowl ring. He has been on the two highest scoring offensive teams in NFL history, one in Minnesota and last season in New England. He has 774 catches, 12,193 receiving yards and 124 touchdown receptions. He's been to six Pro Bowls.

It's a reflective time in his career. He's looked back on his accomplishments and his future.

He's also had a chance to reflect on his friendships, which prompted his call to Culpepper. They spent time on the phone Saturday night talking about the Vikings days and comparing notes on what they are hearing in free agency.

On Friday, Moss, while still in talks with the Patriots, started to listen to what other teams had to say about their interest in him. There is no word on how many teams contacted him and he has no visits scheduled yet. He's studying options. Moss can stay with the Patriots. He can move on to another team. He can reunite with Culpepper on another team.

Moss set an NFL record by catching 23 touchdown passes from Tom Brady this season. This will be his 11th season, but this is his first chance to study all options as a free agent.

Falcons signed Von Hutchins. Now there's talk that they're interested in Randall Gay. (Gay is visiting NO and TB first, tho...)

You think they're preparing to replace a certain DB with these two?

Still waiting on Turner. Schefter thinks it gets done today. He also said it's one of the longest FA visits that he's ever heard of.

Oh man this Moss thing's got me loosing sleep, Robert Craft and the rest of the Pats management need to cut the bull and give him his money, a recieveingcore of Moss and Welker is needed for the Pats to finish what they started. Everybody on NT keeps talking about how if moss leaves New England will replace himeffortlessly, but what if management goes all 2006/2007 on us? Remember?
