***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Very little has been said about "pro-lifers" attacks on those who protest against the SC decision:

Just like little has been said about the fact that "pro-lifers" have bombed abortion clinics and assassinated abortion providers.

We should all recognize religious fundamentalism when we see it and call it out.

Killing a human is not always a crime according to our laws. The Christian religion itself is not consistent about the act of killing: sometimes it condemns it, sometimes, it condones it (and the Bible has stories of God sanctioning child murder, as far back as Exodus). Anyway you look at it, qualifying abortion as a crime is a stretch.

Furthermore, going down the path of qualifying fetal death as a crime opens the door to a whole host of issues: pregnant women smoking and drinking and being active and falling (all legal activities that can endanger the fetus) could possibly get them charged. How do you differentiate between miscarriage and abortion in order to decide whether to punish the mother?

The laws usually apply to persons. A fetus doesn't enjoy full personhood until birth. It's after they're born that they get a name, they count on the census, they get assigned to a society (citizenship) and get all the rights and responsibilities that come with it, etc... Personhood is the main difference between born and unborn humans.
that is again one of those situations that needs to be set on whether one is deliberate or accidental. much so what is the difference between a homicide and murder. it is not like some of our laws are not being discussed.

could be. however, that doesn't change the fact that it is a human nonetheless. is an unborn child a persona non grata just because he/she didn't come out yet?

Whew, I know you felt dumb when you found out it was an elephant embryo. 🤣
Let that pride go and sit out for a little bit
baiting someone about a serious discussion and treat it as some sort of a win exactly prove the stupidity of some people. regardless of that, just because there are no identifying markers on an embryo doesn't prove the fact that it is a living organism that could develop into something or someone that the the embryo is designed for. so unless your point is to make fun of this discussion, there is no real purpose of going forward with some of you for trolling.

"All nine months of pregnancy should be recorded and saved on case fetal loss occurs. We shall examine what she consumed, where/how she traveled, what kind of shoes she wore, to be absolutely certain that she didn't deliberately lose the fetus"

Very reasonable idea...

Person, not persona non grata.

And yes, it legally isn't a person.

I hope you get banned from this thread for posting a clip from Friends

That is nasty work

I agree.

Me when da theme song hits.

Delk giving the cover for others to tell on themselves  :smh:

For a group that talks a big game about ending abortion, and is the dominant group in the states most likely to make abortion illegal, I've seen nothing from the non-Catholic evangelicals that suggests they have any intention of helping the women and children who will be impacted by the decision of this Court

The elephant “gotcha” picture doesn’t really move the needle. Inability to identify the embryo’s species has no bearing on the fact that a human embryo would develop to a human being absent some other medical reason absent an abortion. Is the point that we should abort elephants? Just an odd analysis.

Surely, someone could post an image of a 15-week unborn baby that looks very different.

This is what an unborn baby looks like at 15 weeks. The question is whether killing this is more like murder absent exceptions for medical concerns, rape and/or incest. The majority of Americans agree with restrictions at this point. The elephant embryo is irrelevant to this convo:

They do? The majority? 50.1% of Americans think that a 15-week and 1-day abortion is murder?

exactly. it didn't prove anything behind the rationale of justifying that it is not a living embryo. if some are making fun of this as if it were a joke and couldn't substantiate for their trolling other than act like a pack of hyenas, then I wouldn't entertain such behavior.

as far as the rape/incest scenario goes, it is a very thin line of justification between the two sides.

You should read past headlines. Also, polls like this are very flawed. They are representative of WSJ readers that clicked on their Twitter poll. They aren't going door to door in urban areas.

Although more respondents supported than opposed the 15-week ban, a majority of voters said abortions should be legal in all or most cases.

Fifty-five percent supported the legality of abortion in most cases, 30 percent said it should only be legal in cases of rape, incest or health of the mother, and 11 percent said it should be illegal in all cases.
Based on polling, the majority agree with restrictions at this point—which is what I wrote.
You skipped it the first time I posted it again for you.
