What an embarrassment
The only thing Durham has succeeded at so far is a guilty plea that was literally handed to him on a silver platter by the DOJ Inspector General. All he had to do was charge the IG's findings on Clinesmith. His first actual trial resulted in an acquittal and now he's managed to get one of his charges dismissed in the midst of his second and last trial.
Danchenko was definitely lying to the FBI to some extent, so he'll probably secure a guilty verdict on at least one of the other counts at least.

Has Trump ever had to consider the SEC before? I believe all of his companies have been fairly closely held. Should be fun to see an army of forensic accountants and lawyers trained only to extract the biggest settlement in as little time as possible go to work,

Back in the earlier 00s his casino hotels went public. It was a blood bath. I think he was barred temporarily of taking anything public but I don’t know if here that stands now.

The only issue I take with this is the idea that but for Trump, the GOP would be a responsible party that adhered to norms. At least since the mid 1990’s, the GOP has operated under the assumption that any Democratic electoral victory is illegitimate, that they have a monopoly on patriotism, and that the law enforcement costs entirely to serve their interests.

The GOP said that Bill Clinton has a socialist, who actively worked to destroy the US from the inside, that his election victory came through fraud, and that he should be locked up. BTW this is the model that James Carville says we should emulate today.

In 2000, the GOP pulled off a coup and lawfare that was just as brazen as anything Trump or the Roberts court (to date at least) did. People like Bush 43/Karl Rove, John McCain, Paul Ryan, and Mitt Romney were good at was maintaining a thin facade of pluralism, lawfulness, and a willingness to treat the Democrats as a governing partner. Trump simply finished what Gingrich, Buchanan, Palin, and the Tea Party had started, ripping off the veneer once and for all.

The only material change Trump made to the GOP was getting large swaths of the GOP’s old, white, hitherto computer illiterate voter base to become extremely online. The internet is better able to both centralize and speed up the pace of not only disinformation but also alienation from everyone not already o side the social-political in group.

We all know which party is doing it, the one Delk is gonna vote for up and down the ballot.

The world of Mainstream journalists must be an eerie one. Police pistols mysteriously discharge bullets, block granted money for TANF finds its way into the coffers of mega churches slush funds (perhaps carried by swarms of bats) and racist talking points and political ads just write themselves. It’s like every month is spookey season for so many political reporters.
