Yea it's definitely a real slippery slope and the fact that there doesn't seem to be any sort of watchdog or accountability involved makes it even scarier. All of these kinds of stories like this one,the surveillance of immigrants social media and the ones where they've been starting to ask about political affiliation when folks are crossing the border paints a real concerning and bleek vision of the future. It's part of the reason why I tell folks to cool their jets when they say things can't possibly get worse. Unfortunately they most certainty can under this regime...

We've seen it happen all too often around the world under despotic rule for it to be out of the question in the States,'exceptionalism' be damned

If my social media activities will be looked into if I were to travel to the US I'm sure as hell not setting a foot in America. I'm not sure how that would even work given that I own dozens of social media accounts and email addresses. On top of that, the only circumstances in which anyone other than myself is going to get access to any of those accounts is by paying me for it.
I have zero intention of handing over credentials of social media accounts worth over $1000 in some cases to some random US customs agent.

Europe's Schengen agreement has its pros and cons and to some degree this is a con but one of the positives that people enjoy in my experience is how convenient it is to travel within the EU.
