Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

i consider anything below 70 on RT to be a terrible rating
I go by color :lol

If it's red (which is usually 60 and up) I think it's worth the watch if it's a movie I've never heard of.

With that said there are some movies that are way lower that are pretty good.

Unlike the regular movie viewer response, I was seeing nothing but praise and critical acclaim from critics. They're talking like WIll's performance was an obvious Oscar contender.

Not the first time critics and viewers have had vastly different opinions.
i just looked and see it has a 63% on rotten tomatoes which is pretty good and will's performance seems to be applauded. i think for me, i'd rather watch a documentary about this subject than a movie and will smith doesn't appear to have stretched his abilities in his role. to be fair, i think he did the best that most could do with what he was given though.

i have to get to trumbo because of how highly you rated it and your movies of the year are ranked about what my preferences are. gonna give steve jobs a watch but i'm unsure if i'll watch danish girl.
At this point I really gotta find a day or 2 to watch the rest of the movies I haven't seen yet. Don't want to lock in my list yet.

Not sure how much it would change though. At best if I see 2 movies I love The Martian and The Force Awakens may get bumped.

got through the 4 big ones to cap off 2015

Big Short 8/8

Hateful 7.3/eight

Spotlight 7.2/8

The Revenant 6.2/8

after a rewatch I'm bumping sicario up to a 7/8. The cinematography is just too incredible

Rotten tomatoes is a horrible indicator .

It's the percentage of people the movie to be good so if 9/10 of the reviewers thought movie is a slightly above average romantic comedy the movie gets 90% .

If 50 people review a film and 45 find a movie to be a brilliant masterpiece but 5 of them don't like how it portrays the female lead and found it mysoginistic it gets 90%

IMDB is better , generally speaking anything 7.3 or higher is usually good

I like IMDB because you get aggregate numbers of both user and critic ratings. I tend to value the user ratings more.

IMDB is terrible for ratings, I just rated 3 movies 1 star even though I have never seen them

on RT all the ratings come from reviewers that have watched the movie and taken the time to write a review

if you like the /10 ratings then the RT average rating is going to be way more accurate than IMDB

my gripe with rotten tomatoes are under the radar movies that get ratings based on like 15 reviews which generally include alternative weeklys like the village voice but hold like 93 percent because hipsters found it intriguing .

thats true

that generally goes for smaller films in general though, like every critic is going to see the major releases so you get ratings from a wide range of people. but only horror fans are going to see a movie like the babadook so the movie benefits from mostly being rated by its target audience.

where as if the babadook was a wide release, more non-horror fans would see it and possbily give it lower ratings

Can we talk about the movie Constantine for a minute? I can't figure out what went wrong with this one. I watch it almost everytime it's on, like I'm willing it to be a good movie. It bombed so hard though, there will never be a sequel, which is sad.

Long story short, Keannu is the man, you can't tell me nothing

Constantine was a solid movie but overall you can leave it thinking it was bland.

Reminds me of the feeling I have for the Eric Bana Hulk movie and the Thomas Jane Punisher.

In a sense it's a notch above Spawn but a notch below Hellboy.

Some of the elements were there to tackle the character but some stuff was missing just for this to be like a cult hit. Some times I watch it thinking how fast they get through history/drop you in the middle of Constantine's life that it almost feels like a sequel to the movie that established the origin.

The casting was there, direction was fine but something needed to be done to that script to have you like :smokin

Definite movie you have on the background or stop and watch a few scenes when you see it on tv but I doubt I'd sit through it again.

Sisters sucked. Felt so cheesy man. Baby momma was wayyyyy better. Sucks cause Tina and Amy are funny as hell to me in everything else they do including 30 Rock and Parks and Recs smh.

Really Spot on Zik. Had Constantine on while streaming the other day and it set the mood, every time I'd turn something interesting was going on. I honestly think it won't be a cult hit because the comic fans hate that he's not british or blonde and there's not trench coat.

Movie got me read the comics too.

I feel like any movie about concussions right now would be held in a high regard....regardless of the performance because there's a movement to bring awareness to NFL and the concussion problem.

I don't think fans care about the health of nfl players, they care about if they should really let their kids play football. It's a big issue to the nfl and the players but seems like to us general people we don't give much dambs about it. I could be wrong though.

Not fans, critics. Kinda like if Kendrick Lamar made an abstract album, but it wasn't good...but critics still will find a way to call it groundbreaking etc.(I'm a Kendrick fan too)

And I don't rock with Rotten Tomatoes all the way. Friday After Next is a 25% on there. How Sway? How?

QT is a legit genius when it comes to writing dialogue

Movie was 8/8 until the the action started then it was more like 6.8/8

movie would have still been great without it but that wide shot of the different color fireworks was just so great and was a perfect quiet before the storm

The sound design is top notch too

Fury Road is a great movie. I'm going to watch it again. Only 2 movies I've watched multiple times last year, Fury Road and John Wick
