Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Good movie night - Harlem Nights, Grosse Pointe Blank, Equalizer and Die Hard all starting right about now. Going to go with Harlem Nights since its been the longest since I've see that one.

Hateful 8 was brilliant. Not sure why it was so panned by so many. The movie did not feel like it was almost 3 hours long. Not even close. QT may have written the best collective dialogue in a film since Kill Bill with this one. Yeah, Bastards was great, but it was easy to see Waltz and Melanie Laurent shine over everyone else; this film, every character had great dialogue. No one was wasted, maybe a byproduct of a smaller setting, less characters. Either way, brilliant story. One of my favorites of the year.

If I needed to rank it off immediate reaction, I think I'd slot it behind PF, Kill Bill, and Basterds. Solid 7.4/8.

brad pitt, fassbender and that both the german guy who was the sniper and the SS officer who was in the basement were great and not overshadowed at all imo

Yea I'm really surprised so many hve it that high up in people lists. (Ex machina).

I thought it was a great scifi film, but just that.

To clarify I'm not saying it's not a good movie but hyping it as movie of the year and Oscar winner not imo.
Yeah, it's good, in my top 10 but I would not say it was the best picture of the year.

I'd truly be shocked if it got nominated. A movie like that usually doesn't get the nod and then when I look at the overall quality compared to the field of 2015 there are other movies that'll get the recognition.

Exactly my point. 2015 was a strong year for cinema. It's not in my top 10 films but it was good just not award worthy other than visuals which it will still lose out to anomalisa

Can't embed but news eps of Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter have been airing. You can watch them here. It airs 11am on Sundays.

There's an ep with producers (Ice Cube's in it, so is Simon Kinberg, I don't remember names for the rest). An ep for writers (Sorkin and Amy Schumer are present, also the lady who wrote Room, and guy who wrote Brooklyn). Then the ep for directors with QT, Inarritu, Ridley Scott, O. Russell, dude who directed Danish Girl, and Danny Boyle.

I really thought I was gonna hate Brooklyn. Thought it was gonna be a "chick flick" (kindaaaaa is) but that performance from ronan was exquisite! Probably the only non blockbuster the ms. has picked that I ended up liking.

I can agree with that. Pitt wasn't fantastic, but was pretty damn good, and I enjoyed his character throughout. But Waltz put his stamp on that film. And don't get me wrong, I still have IB ranked higher than H8.

Pitt's character didnt call for any dramatic acting (which brad is capable of). Brad was perfect in that role, the scene where he attempts to be eye talian is one of the funniest scenes in movie history

I want to see a QT movie staring michael madsen and sam jackson where they have no lines and do all their acting with their eyes

two best eye actors in the business
