Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I been watching weeds since it first came on and its time for it to end.
Them coming back full circle for the next episode and thus the rest of the season makes the most sense to finish it.
Nancy doesnt end up in a box though unless there is some major plot twist, and thats the only reason it could be considered being brought back.
Chuck is my fall spy show and its ending this year it too would have ran its course.
I like USA's lineup of shows.
Burn Notice is akin to Chuck in that Michael Westen is being crossed so much he has to stop looking to stay saine, although the nieviety of Chuck is what drives that show Michael being a legit spy, vs Chuck being in some ways a gimmick makes Burn Notice better.
Psych is pure genius, although its prob stale at this point.
White Collar is interesting if only cause now the Matt Bonner character has 2 voices in his head instead of one in Mozzy
Im more of a tv guy than a movie guy though. I like watching a storyline get 3-4 hours over the course of a season, vs it getting an hour in a movie.

As for your Jen Garner discussion. Her best argument is that she doesnt ruin anything, but the truth is that thats a good actress at this point.
Hallie Berry ruined a bunch of movies for me personall. And I dont like how overrated she is in the beauty department either. Its not that she isnt damn fine its that she is the personification of black beauty after 3 nose job's.

As much as I like Chasing Amy, there are one or two scenes where it seemed like Kevin Smith basically said, "screw it, I'm gonna write Joey's lines the way I would say it!"
And I know I'm going to be flamed for this, but I can't stand watching Audrey Hepburn. I'm pretty sure it was just the time period, or maybe her roles, but all her characters were just painfully irritating to watch. I am sure that she was reflection of women at the time, which I can totally understand, but I just can't enjoy her movies.

Damn really; which didn't you like? I could see someone getting angry at Holly Golightly because of the way she @@$@% over Fred Baby, but isn't meant to be malicious or anything, she was just too damn oblivious and naive.

I love Hepburn but I dislike watching Breakfast at Tiffanys, the book is so much better and different.

'Cowboys & Aliens' was a fun movie. Perfect kind of summer blockbuster. Obvious corny moments are plentiful, but they're so corny it's funny. Only downside is that Olivia Wilde was wearing clothes almost the entire movie

I'm not sure if this counts, but let's see what you all think.  Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.  To me, that movie was OUTSTANDING, and not because of the sex every 8 minutes of screen time, just the psychological cat and mouse that she was playing with the police department.  The way she was ahead of them every step of the way, her pages printing and Nick sees them and then they happen exactly that way, the tug of war between her the "evil" one, and Jeanne Tripplehorn's character, the "good" one.  Douglas at the peak of his smarmy days, the question unresolved of who the actual killer may or may not have been.  All of it was really really good, but it simply was overshadowed by how many times they got Sharon naked.

I wish they would have toned that down and amped up the dialogue a bit, Sharon pulls an oscar from that role imo.  The forced lesbian kiss scene where shes taunting Douglas and he goes to leave and she has to turn and awkwardly kiss Roxy for no damn reason, you could tell how staged that scene was, it was the lone moment where I looked and said that's Sharon Stone, the rest of the time she was Katherine Tremmel.

Directors should be shot for @#$% like that.  If you want to make stuff like that, stick to Showgirls, but when you have actual material to use, keep that stuff out of it.

I guess I just assumed it was something completely different. Don't really recall what it was marketed as.

I was so excited to see this when it came out, and when I saw it in theaters I ended up hating it, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It tried so hard to be a different type of assassin film but it ended up being so dreary and boring IMO.

Clooney was horrible in the role as well, boring script.

The topic of leading female actresses in Hollywood has always been an interesting one, and right now I think we are on the upswing actually.

In my opinion, Streep is the greatest female actress of all time, bar none. I'll watch her in anything, she is tremendous.

But right now there are a handful of powerful actresses who can carry a lead role and don't need to rely on a male to carry them.

- Natalie Portman
- Jennifer Lawrence
- Michelle Williams
- Emily Blunt
- Anne Hathaway
- Amy Adams
- Kristen Wiig
- Mila Kunis
- Melissa Leo (she's been around for a while but The Fighter put her more on the mainstream map)
- Emma Stone

I'm sure I'm missing a few but those are off the top. They are all there, or turning the corner on being leading woman in different genre's

Hold up though, Mila hasn't shown @#$% that she can hold anything on her own.  She's good, I like her so far, but she ain't bringin people to the theatres by herself yet.

And Lawrence still needs a bit more time, but she seems to be headed that way.  Certainly off to a good start.

And Reece Witherspoon was handin it all of them before she started raising kids.  Cruel Intentions, Sweet Home Alabama, Walk the Line, Legally Blonde, she was rollin.  See if she can come back like that again.

Streep Hathaway, Blunt.

Tellin ya, Devil Wears Prada.  One of the best small casts I have seen in a movie.  Stanley Tucci's performance as well.  Simon Baker and Vince as supportings, literally like the only 6 characters that even matter in the movie and it worked.  Couldn't tell me Streep wasn't actually Miranda Priestly.

What about Sex and the City?  Where does that fit in in terms of female roles and all that?  Obviously, it goes beyond just the 2 movies, the show itself was a big big platform for those 4 women, and they put together a damn good show for 6 years + 2 movies.  (though, they did have down moments as with anything)

I was watching the simpsons and it was a Sideshow Bob episode and I was wondering, have any of you ever seen Frazier?

As far as the Devil Wears Prada is concerned, I was so skeptical about it and I just didn't care to watch it for so long, and when I did was so surprised, it's such a good movie with great performances. Really, Really liked it.

CP in regards to Mila, I agree she isn't a major draw, but she's getting there, and I included her in the list because I feel like everyone I listed was either there or on their way. Kunis was really good in The Book of Eli and Black Swan, she likes straddling genre's between comedy and drama so I think she is doing well balancing.

Lawrence and Williams are both young but are way ahead of their time IMO, both future big stars.
