Anybody watch the MasterClass - Black History, Black Freedom, Black Love?

Dope series.

Kinda hard to say there's no such thing as white privilege after watching a video like that

Has the police department said anything yet?

Yeah i've seen this live and dug into the police, luckily folks pulled me away before we got arrested.

Jelani Cobb told a story based on the context of the dehumanization of Black people behind the word ‘Ni_’. Very interesting perspective.

“The 14 year old version of me said, those are fighting words—that’s when you start swinging.

Mr.Felker was quiet for a minute. And he said, if I call you Robert, will you answer? And I said, no. He said, if I call you David, will you answer? And I said, no. Or, John. No.

Why not?

Because none of those are my name. And he said, so if I call you by the N-word but you know you’re not that, why would you answer to that?

And I thought that was really profound. Here was this Black man who had lived in segregation. And he was saying these things because they reflected really hard-won wisdom about how to navigate racism and what to do when people attempt to dehumanize you.

And what Mr. Fever was saying to me was that people don’t get to humiliate you without your consent. They attempt to dehumanize you. But you don’t have to actually consent to that process. You can maintain your integrity and dignity of who your are irrespective of what people around you are trying to do.”

Generally speaking, triggers are internal or external units of experience, that align in some way, with our previous traumas. These triggers lead us to begin to re-experience the pain, confusion, and compulsions to protect our self, that accompany conscious, or partially unconscious, traumatic memories.

Most folks entire motivation for being offensive (racists, karens, etc) is to reduce us to this:

They know how to push buttons to elicit a self affirming response.

Its their own insecurities at work because (just by going about our lives / minding our business / being successful at anything) we don't appear to be playing by the rules of their game.

Notice how a racist never has a problem with the poor, ignorant, deaf, dumb, and blind, of us.

Only those of us who do not conform to their sense of superiority become the targets of their intentions.

"The fatal confrontation took place last May 4, when Vonelle Cook, a store regular, began berating staff members after being upset with the service he received at the store’s drive-through window, the authorities said.

After being told several times to leave, Mr. Cook parked and went into the shop, while Mr. Pujols told another store employee to call the police, prosecutors said. The pair argued, separated by a counter. Then Mr. Cook used a racial slur, causing Mr. Pujols to walk through a swinging door and come face-to-face with Mr. Cook, prosecutors said.

Mr. Pujols “warned the victim not to say that again,” prosecutors said. “The victim repeated the racial slur, and Pujols immediately punched him in the jaw, which caused the victim to fall and hit his head.”

Mr. Cook died three days later."
