Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

That Prime Sosa appreciation :hat

Keef was a mix of Fat Trel/1017 Bricksquad era Waka/Futuristic Atl and organic Chicago drill.

He packaged all his influences together nicely....and tapped in some forward thinking producers. Back from the dead and finally Rich are personally two of my favorite projects Post 2010.

Plies is like a mascot to hip hop like Flavor Flav and Lil Jon to me. They actually do something, but their image and persona surpassed anything they did musically.

It goes to show people are idiots and like when dudes do dumb ****. People like the fact that the kid killed somebody and all that...that's why they all promoting the song. "Free xyz" I called it from when I first saw the story. Kid is lost and people are just as lost.

Lol it didn't do what was expected  that literally makes no sense

Do your googles. They poured a lot of money into Views. It was promoted like it was gonna be a groundbreaking album to change the game. It did well but not what they expected. I'm not sure what's hard to understand. I didn't say it flopped.

Drake fatigue is a real thing. Sure he didn't promote More Life like views. But it's still a Drake album either way you slice it. IYRTITL was on LiveMixtapes for 24hrs when it first came out...and did really well and had staying power.

The only thing Drake hasn't done with More Life is shoot visuals. But visuals matter less and less these days. 21 Savages "Bank account" is rising into to the top 10 without a video. Lil Uzi Xo tour life never got a vide etc etc.

Drake just won for too long. It's weird not seeing a Drake song on the billboard or ringing off when he dropped an album only 5 months ago.

I think eventually Drake transitions into other things. Think Will Smith-eque...big time movie star but still dipping your feet in music here and there.

Keef also let his Lil B influence take over by flooding the internet with throwaways instead of curating his stand out tracks into cohesive
projects.

After a while it became a chore to sift thru his music to find his good songs.

I'm a fan of his own production tho

Bang 2 was fuego dot com

Ironically...Lil B was my introduction to Chief Keef. Matter fact...if anyone looks back far enough on here...the Bang Remix w/ Lil B got posted before the Chief Keef thread as actually made.

Who would have guessed in a million years that they'd be two of the biggest influencers of pop culture

That's exactly how I got put on to Keef.

And after checking out the first Bang mixtape it was obvious that Lil B was an influence on Keef

On another note, another movement that I expected to take over was that wave that Yung Lean & Bladee were creating.

"I stay out in traffic, ***** I ain't no house *****"

Used to stay saying that line in high school lol. Charlie sheen was hard

I think it would have if dude didn't end up in a psych ward. That **** was WELL ahead of it's time. That whole movement was on the "sing-songy rap but not quite rap" wave a good 3 years before it really took off.

4x platinum ain't what they expected? #1 song for 16 weeks? Bro what are you talking about :lol

You are taking your own personal feeling and trying to sound smart and pass them off as facts. Please show where they took an L on the album...MONETARILY like you saying...not Joe budden opinion, not critics. But the $$$ that you speak of.

:lol sound silly. As if controlla one dance didn't do good as well as pop style. The album was a hit whether u like it or not.

That's like saying Kendrick album did do as well as expected lmao

Views should've been Drakes pinnacle, everything from stripping the 'from the 6' from the title, focusing more on dancehall-pop records, not rolling out traditional videos (Please Forgive Me was un-needed), etc etc. he dropped the ball IMO

It only had 2 "dancehall" tracks

Jay wasn't needed at all there.

I keep my mind on my money ***** **** the fame
Big face hunids, keepin' the game
Hittin' the corner in the candy thang
Sittin' on leather, grippin' the grain

:pimp: :pimp:

Keef should Definitely be bigger than what he is. I Dont Like was epic. If you where around Chicago or Indiana when that came out. Then you know. When the remix came out. Radio Stations down there had that song on repeat when the weekend hit.

His Camp dropped the ball with Faneto though. That shoulve became a huge hit. I noticed Stations around the Midwest region support it. He just didn't do anything to give it major legs in my opinion. Keef shouldve paid for a couple of big name features for a Faneto remix.

Slap someone like Boosie and 1 or 2 more features that would complement that beat. It wouldve been a bigger song.

faneto still was a big song

again its just not mainstream recognition

earned it and faneto still make people who were in HS for Dont Like and Finally Rich go crazy nationwide

this actually really happened to one of my friends a few years ago, it stemmed from the specifc combo of earned it into faneto smh

"Polo **** that Hilfiger"

"Watch yo' paper, guard your life
Cause most these ****** ain't livin right
Keep yo' pistol, **** a fight
Cause ****** out here jack every night"

Pimp C verse one of my favorites in rap period. Every line he was talking that ****
