Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

“Suicide, didn't die from the dip
Submarine, man, keep your eyes on the blips
Sonar, echo, location, and where we are facin'
Get back to our nation, oh Lord
So we walkin' back to Africa
And I found a detour to the seashore
Yes, jumped off the deck
To leave footsteps on the depths of the sea floor, ay”

:pimp:

!!!

Talkin' to trees, like 'how could you be in the chorus
With something so horrid?
You became boards for the floors and the doors of the warships'
Anthropomorphic, the forest returned with a match
Made from itself and said, 'Burn us with that'
Then left again and came back with an axe
'We can serve you as furniture or furnace us black', ayy

What kind of dude thinks like this? Maybe he should have got into screenplay writing or something, too.:sick:

FAM
y'all can't do me like this at work

That 'footsteps on the depths of the sea floor' gives me chills when I listen, man.

Alright, back to your regularly scheduled programming. Someone post a kid with colored locs or something.

Having not really checked for Lupe since F&L 2 what are some tracks T&Y and more recent that I should listen to?

I still haven't given Drogas wave a listen but i really like T&Y.

Only thing with Lupe projects is i really have to block time out to really LISTEN, i feel like i'm doing my self a diservice just hearing it on a surface level, knowing just how much he puts into it.

Hell Murals had me online researching mad ****

It’s such a dope album but you’re most def right, that’s not an album where you skip around picking out random songs or even playing in your car, that’s a kick back in your bed with headphones album :lol

Great interview between these two. realest part of the interview gotta be Q saying he don't give a **** about the reviews & acclaim :lol:

to quote him "I don't even make music for those ******" i've always wondered how artist who have real street content reacted to the pitchfork types who be having all the critical acclaim for them. Now granted i'm not saying you gotta be a gangsta to understand the music, but a lot of these cats don't look like they've been outside period, let alone around the environment some of these dudes portray.

Yo was my favorite rapper for a 2 year period 06-07 . Lupe & Wayne.

Crazy how him and Stack Bundles was roommates and real close. Stack was signed to 1st & 15th before Lupe actually.

Lupe and Chilly Chill actually started 1st and 15th together but yeah I guess Stack was the first artist that wasn’t Lupe, I think it was a Chill connection tho, bruh know literally everybody lol

From what I heard they were tryna start a rap group with Lu, Stack and some other NYC _’s Chill knew but the label deal fell apart so they just started their own label and put Stack on it as a solo act

Lupe history seem so random cause its a whole side the mainstream never saw, he was basically supposed to be Nas type conscious street _ before Kick Push

Edit: I think this is how his attitude/consciousness came to be tho

bruh is like 50% black muslim conspiracy theorist 50% smug nerdy Harvard student and both sides be leaking out simultaneously sometimes, like the Obama situation

I put that **** on in my girl's car like a week after the album dropped and she had never really listened to Lupe like that.

She listens to WAV Files for like 45 seconds and said to me 'can you put something else on, I feel like I have to think.'

Meanwhile I'm rapping along about the constellations and reciting all the slave ships he lists in the third verse.:smh:

Lupe the definition of playing your role. Front man. Know he got his hands dirty :lol. He lay it all out in the 3rd verse on Lupe The Killer.

Em and 50 were the last rappers that should have had clothing lines

It was really standom.

They caught licks with that.
I look at it today as all the merch artists are selling with their album releases.

Curtis was just following Em's lead given he had as big of an initial hype and buzz around him. Am was smart though. He got thowe rabid fans. Bet he could've had his own shoe and they'd buy it up.

When they see Puff and Jay doing it, might as well cash in.

Shout to Wu Wear.

Smh can't believe I threw out my entire r&b/rap album collection the other day. Got tired of the physical copies taking up space in the house.

On another note, I saw somebody mention durags all summer a couple posts back.
Got them Bow Wow joints coming in next week shawty. Bout to have that velvet all over my head to cover the waves. Yes I got every single color.
