No not really.. Shaq: 2 yrs 40 mill... Marion (You have to renew his contract and to keep him in Miami is going to be costly.. Not to mention he's about to turn 30): 4 yrs 78 Mill *He already makes 17 a year and wanted more in Phoenix*.... and add Marcus Banks: 2 yr 8 Mill.. So it's really a push come money wise.. But, Miami doesn't have to resign bums like Ricky Davis, Jason Williams and Mourning is going to retire.. You'll get a 1-3 pick.. and can probably add a Brand in the off-season.. This is a good deal for Miami as well..
laugh.gif
So what!!? At least Miami got rid of the big lug who rathersit on the bench and watch the game than actually gettiing on the court and earning his keep. He's got all of these side projects in his life like lawenforcement...he's not worried about basketball anymore. He's only in the league to collect a paycheck. As far as Shawn Marion and Banks go....even ifthey Heat don't restructure the deal with those guys they can easily get even younger talent on that team instead of the big ageless wonder ShaquilleO'Neal. As I mentioned, Phoenix is ******ed for taking 2 components away from their team..........what do they get out of it!? Shaq's old, he'slazy, he's got other options in life and he's definitely not as hungry to win a Championship like the rest of the Suns. This is a terrrible move forPhoenix.

I wasn't expecting this deal to exactly be praised but the amount of hate is wild. As a serious Suns fan, I think it's important to try to look at thebig picture and give this thing the benefit of the doubt.

Marion was gone. Period. Suns were not going to pay him 20 mil per on an extension. And it was very real that he would opt out this summer, leaving Phoenixwith nothing in return. I know I don't want to see the same Suns team bow out yet again in the playoffs. We need a center; 15 and 10 a night and a presencein the paint. I'm not saying Shaq is the 2000 Shaq or even the 2006 Shaq. But he is still Shaq and can give the Suns just enough to give them their bestshot yet at a title without any glaring deficiencies, as in how the frontline has been small for the past 4 years.

I just think, based on trying to consider all the sides of this deal, that it has a good shot of working out. If it works out, the Suns look like they couldwin it. However, win or lose, I don't see this as the disaster so many people seem to think it is. At the very least, just wait and see how it plays out.

BTW this is the Shaq trade to PHX thread, not the Laker thread. So please take your rebuttals back to the laker thread where they can RIP.

How can you use the word great to descibe him? There aren't even alot of good centers in the league let alone great.
I can use the word great because he has been great for us. I don't know how many laker games you watched this year but we have been doing greatwith him. I am not saying he is the best center in the NBA or any thing close to that but he has done great things for us. With him in we were the top team inthe west. Its not always about stats but he fits good with us.

When shaq speaks you listen. He told the heat he would bring them a title and he did. If he tells nash he won't let him down I believe him. He always playslike crap in the regular season. He will turn it on and I just hope that if we match up with the suns we have enough to beat them.

Yeah...kinda looking back at this trade....if this works Kerr will turn out to be a genius. I would not bet against Shaq in the playoffs....who knows.

But one thing is certain FOR SURE-the window of opportunity to get to the Finals for the Suns got smaller after this trade (if it wasn't small already).

yup

I would never bet against Shaq.

same here

You have got to be kidding me, Shaq has never been in shape even during those championship runs, just ask Phil, Kobe, Buss, or even Riley. He's justalways been bigger than anybody so it makes up for his lack of conditioning. I'm just interested to see how he does, they say that he's loss someweight, down to 312 from 325 with less body fat, I won't believe it until I see it though.

I know what thread it is...thanks for the heads up...but beingthat it started out talking about Shaq with PHX, I'm not off topic. Steve Nash RUNS the offense...I stated that already. Shaq will be the FOCUS. Twoentirely different things. He has to be the focus because he's the biggest thing on the court. The Suns are going to HAVE to change their offense in themiddle of the season. Which I'm 95% sure isn't gonna go to well. So if they fail this season they have a total of 1 year left to get a ring anythingless would be a failure.

laugh.gif
For Bynum and Pau being so mediocure it sure got the whole western conference shook. When was the last time the team with the best record went out and hadto make a desperation trade like this. Phoenix does have the best record with their previous roster.

laugh.gif
This argument about centers...

If I'm taking a guy for only THIS YEAR, based off what I've seen THIS YEAR (and I'll take out the supposed tweeners because they "aren'tnatural C's"
eyes.gif
), I'm taking Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby (dominating games defensively and on the glass, take whatever comes to themoffensively), Chris Kaman (probably the closest call, but Kaman is playing out of his mind this year), Amare, Yao, Dwight, and Al Jefferson (those last 4aren't even close) before I take Bynum.

Now, if I'm looking at the future, I still take any of the last 4 before Bynum, but Bynum passes the other 3 because he's got a higher ceiling and moreroom for improvement.
For Bynum and Pau being so mediocure it sure got the whole western conference shook.
Phoenix making a trade means the entire Western Conference is shook? OK.

I don't know about making shaq the focus. He is hurt right now as we speak. He should be doing the physical as we speak. What if is hip is worse then weknow? This deal may not happen.

i hope shaq's phyisical don't pass...man what kinda morons da suns are.....
smh.gif

marion was your 2nd best player. BEST defender overall.....

wow, amazing how a post about shaq being traded to phoenix turns into an argument about andrew bynum

laugh.gif

but anyway, this deal aint done yet ? im getting worried phoenix will pull out

Shaq is as desperate to stop Kobe from getting another ring just as much as PHX is desperate to stop the Lakers from getting another ring.

Steve Nash RUNS the offense...I stated that already. Shaq will be the FOCUS. Two entirely different things. He has to be the focus because he's the biggest thing on the court. The Suns are going to HAVE to change their offense in the middle of the season. Which I'm 95% sure isn't gonna go to well. I really don't see why Shaq has to be the focus of the Suns offense... Though this:
He has to be the focus because he's the biggest thing on the court.
is about the absolute silliest thing I've ever read... So, DJ Mbenga is the focus of the Laker offense when he's on the court? No. Shaqdoes not need to be, nor will he be the focus of that offense in Phoenix.

They are going to have to change things up a bit. They can still run, but they can't do it for 48 minutes. And when they get into the half-court,they're going to have to change up the way they run the pick and roll. It's been Nash and Amare/Marion for the last two years with jump shooters aroundthe perimeter, and it was killer. Shaq can't run a pick and roll, and all he's going to do when they go with Amare/Nash in that set is clog the laneand be in the way... Maybe it works, but the offense needs some serious tweeking, IMO.

I said that from jump....I might have been a little over the top in saying top 3 in the league but I wouldn't be taking anyone but D12 or Yao over him.Period.

Shaq To Nash: "I Will Not Let You Down"

Shaquille O'Neal delivered a title to the Miami Heat and he hopes to do the same for the Phoenix Suns .

O'Neal spoke with Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire on Tuesday.

"I will not let you down," O'Neal told Nash on the phone.

According to the report in the Arizona Republic, O'Neal is down to 312 pounds and is expected to easily pass his physical

312? I'm sorry, I like Shaq and I believe he still something left, but I don't think he's weighed 312 since probably his rookie year. Ifhe's at 330, I'd consider it good.

There is no way Shaq is down to 312

Did anybody read the thing that I posted last night? That the Suns made this move because Dallas was making an aggresive move for Shaq?
