A few of my friends and I were having a discussion last night about the warriors in general and first draft pick Anthony Randolph. While I was the only onethat thought that the warriors are currently rebuilding to try and compete (in the future) in the tough western conference, my friends insisted that they werenot rebuilding. I stated that in the past the warriors have shown several patterns of being "a training camp team" in that they get good players inthe draft and let them go to free agency. To solve that now they locked up key players in the franchise to prevent another team from snatching what they havedeveloped.
The meat of the argument was about Anthony Randolph. I've watched him in college at LSU and was impressed with some of his strengths. He had decent lowpost moves and great ball handling skills for a big man. He was also able to square up and knock down some close to mid range jumpers. he then went on to havea pretty impressing post draft workout and summer league. The problem is he is very undersized in a beefy NBA and an even beefier western conference. He willhave to see solid big men every night and for a rookie sometimes that is too much to handle. Sure he beat bigger guys off the dribble but when play againstguys such as David West, Pau Gasol(as soft as he is he would still beast Randolph), Lamarcus Aldrige, etc. Another thing is Nelly has never been huge on givingrookies good run except for the cases of such players as Chris Webber. Brandon Wright had the same off season that Randolph did and he hasnt played enough toshow what kind of impact he can have. I said he would start out the season get about 12 minutes a game max, and if he does absolutely spectacular then he willstart to see more minute later during the season. I this year being a more developmental year for Randolph. He will definitely play in some games this year butI think they might use him a in some d-league games to help him develop.
My question to yall is howmuch do you think the warriors will use Randolph? How much PT will he get? and how big of an impact do you see him having this year?
