Saw the movie last night and had mixed feelings. They could've taken the franchise in a bold new direction, but the movie ended up being another copy+paste job. We've already seen an old, secluded jedi training an apprentice and the young jedi then trying to convert the sith apprentice as the sith master watches and dies before, and the planet at the end was basically Hoth 2.0. It was too predictable. The way Kylo and Ren both deviated back to their First Order and Resistance roles after almost joining together like the Snoke scene didn't just happen. While the formula for the main characters remained essentially the same, I did appreciate the twists with the minor characters like Holdo and the codebreaker.

Another complaint I have is that the use of the force by Leia to fly back onto the ship and by Luke with the hologram was really cheesy. As was the dialogue in the Luke-Kylo Ren fight at the end, up until Luke's last "see you around" line, which I liked. One complaint I've seen while scanning the last few pages of this thread that I'll defend is about Kylo Ren. I don't see any problem with him not being as cold and calculated as Maul and Vader were. Having Kylo be the same way would be too cookiecutter. It's interesting to see him go through more internal conflict as he struggles with the two sides of the force.

Overall it was an entertaining movie, definitely not bad, but could've been better.

Seen it las night. I thought it was good but I have a lot of beef with this film.

J.J. gotta lot of work to do to close this trilogy out with a bang.

I most def weary of Rian Johnson’s new trilogy after this one.

Luke possessed no wisdom in the film other than telling Rey that using the force for any specific side is “vanity” or some nonsense that disrespects GL.

After Yoda pulls one of the better Deus ex machina moments in the film, Luke realizes that his purpose is now to distract his nephew so his extremely inexperienced student can carry on the Jedi legacy and eventually defeat Kylo (which she did before she even met Luke Skywalker) and clean up Luke’s mistakes....because Luke couldn’t just....defeat Kylo himself?

:smh:

Seriously, all these people coming out the movies ABSOLUTELY loving the movie...are we watching the same flick??

Fanboys are what made Star Wars relevant...no reason to completely abandon everything we all came to love.

Why didnt JJ direct all 3 again? I feel like this is so apparently.

Yoda references "there is another" in ESB, so saying Leia didn't matter til RotJ doesn't hold water.
And then they followed that up by not doing anything force related with Leia in RotJ AT ALL

I'm pretty sure it wasn't even nailed down that Leia and Luke were sisters by the end of ESB.

She was using the force in ESB when she could hear Luke.
I've already said a billion times George screwed up his own story by saying Leia "remembering" her mother died when she was very young.

There's been THIRTY YEARS, if you doubt that Luke/Leia worked on her Force abilities, I don't know what to tell ya.

That is one of the few things I will agree with. She was pretty much tapping into the force when she can sense Luke was alive in Rotj

But the Force moment with Leia was so damn shoehorned. Like we couldn’t get one hint that Leia had developed force techniques. Like Broom boy is out here pulling stuff to him so I couldn’t see Leia do something similar FIRST before she goes Super Saiyan on us?? And if Leia is gifted in the force to that extent it gives more of a head scratcher as to why she sent Rey to see Luke with their father’s lightsaber. Like did no one proof read Rian Johnson’s script at Lucasfilms?

If you needed a hint, after 30 years passed......

Again, EU Leia >>>>>>>>>>>

They can't incorporate all of it, but I'm willing to bet that was a piece of it. She has the same power as Luke, just not the same practice.

Why are people questioning Kylo vs the Red Guards? He was taking on 3 at a time and destroyed them all. The one at the end got him, and he skull ****ed him with Rey's saber. An awesome moment btw.

Um ....Kylo can’t force push or nah? How is a Praetorian Guard even getting close to the chosen one’s grandson that has Luke Skywalker depressed on a destitute island and just killed an ancient darkside entity? Pretty sure I saw Kylo freezing blasters and even people in mid air in TFA...

“It’s time for consistency...... to end” *que John Williams score*

I agree. Vader should have force choked Obi Wan on the Death Star and thrown him around in mid air rather than fighting it out.

You right.......

We comparing Praetorian Guards to Jedi masters and previous history that warranted a lightsaber duel? You’re stooping so low to defend this movie. CP you’re better than this. It’s ok man, let us grieve together

 I have nothing to grieve over. It all comes back to you not getting your Skywalker, nothing else. You can cry about that yourself, I'm feelin great, with the Solo film on deck in 5.5 months. :pimp:

That side quest was bearable. Minus Benicio Del Toro....seems like another character wasted.
Oh don't get me started on hiw they wasted him.

Some just nonchalant **** good or evil hacker that snakes them. Such a sub par subplot. That character was frustrating.
I don’t remember him saying that.
Do you not understand what if means it what a hypothetical scenario is?
Well, today was my 3rd viewing, 3 cities, this time with my daughter.

All 3 had applause when the film ended. Marvel films don't get applause, DC films don't, Nolan, Tarantino, I can't think of many I've been in that did.

Cinescore has an A rating, as people walk out of theaters.

So these "texts" you're getting.....and the folks in here complaining, must be somethin else goin on. I'm betting it's the 2 years of conspiracy theorist guessing Snoke's origins or Rey's lineage all furious that Rian gave them zero answers to their wild theories.
You going to the movies with ******* weird auduences all the time then even if its coicidence

Dark Knight got applause and so did Avengers if we just using anecdotal evidence.

Plus you side stepped what I said about going to see the movie withbdie hard SW fans..... Don't bring your daughter if you do.

As for why theyre mad; Its more about Snoke dying, Kylo continuing to be an emo lame, and the excessive jokes. A few other things but that's the main feedback

Wait you actually have high hopes for the Han Solo movie? Oh my you truly on something. Don’t no one have high hopes for that movie. Ill still be there first showing on Thursday but if it’s not a train wreck I’ll be impressed

Zik, do you think I'm the only Star Wars fan in Oregon? You think I don't talk to MULTIPLE Star Wars fans everyday? None of them have come at me with these dumb *** complaints.

My boss is the one true case study, he's going to be crushed when he finds out about Luke, I'll talk to him tomorrow.

Of the latest 3, R1, TLJ, and Solo, it's obviously 3rd to me. But that doesn't mean it can't be good.

Point is, I'm happy with TLJ, and don't have to wait a year for the next film, just 5.5 months. Then we'll have to wait 18 for episode 9.

I can’t believe I didn’t get to see Luke go ham with the saber :smh:

No hat scene with him projecting himself was really damn awesome, but cmon I wanted my dude go ham!

Snoke??? Man what a total waste.
Eh i like Kylo wanting to rule by himself with no one above him.

Rey really Op the hell.

Finn and rose story pretty lucha waste.

Jurassic Park was really whatever. No attachment at all.

BB8 the real MVP.
R2 was useless
Plasma??????
Getting more frustrated thinking about this.

JJ like. ‘ I gotta start from scratch, cuz dude just ruined the storyline I was going for and left me with this”.

Should have let JJ take as much time off as necessary and let him direct this movie with his vision & style. Could have had this come out in '18 and had another prequel or independent SW movie. This film is disjointed from the previous one and not in a good way since it's part of a 'trilogy'.

On that note whey even bother with trilogies anymore seeing as the new cast are much younger and Disney intends to have TV, bi-annual films, etc..?

Man. Got out about three hours ago and my reaction to it is negative. There's a lot in here that people have already touched on that I agree with when it comes to complaints...

IDK dawg I LIKE the fact that Rian made Luke very acute to the wrongdoings of the Jedi and what he's trying to push in terms of escorting in a new era of SW that is distant from our collective understanding of all things Jedi & Sith over these last few decades. But why do it in EP 8??? Why not make these hints and suggestions for the final film of this trilogy?? Seems rushed and I'm hesitant that this wont even payoff in 9
