Don’t really get Stein’s point. When you’re out of playoff contention in any sport, you’re gonna pack it in for the last several weeks of the reg season.

The league increased the playoff field to 20, should be applauded for keeping those extra markets engaged.

The blazers margin of defeat is a direct result of all the 3s teams take nowadays.

I mean...it kinda does work. Portland and OKC did the most to race to the bottom and still are going to need quite a bit of luck. Orlando went hard last year...and still missed out on Cade/Green/Mobley.

OR they can just do away with the draft entirely.

Owners would never agree to it. Teams with wealthy owners like the Clippers or the most popular teams in desirable locations like the Lakers would dominate. Teams that build through the draft like Memphis, Phoenix, Utah, etc would be dead of arrival.

An idea would be to give teams with the worst records more money to sign guys. Would prospects sacrifice their first contract to really be in LA?

I 100% think elite young prospects would sacrifice money to be on title contenders and teams in desirable locations. Not to mention that these players' agents would steer them to top teams or teams in desirable locations. They might be able to make up for the difference in salary by having more endorsements from being in a better location and playing on better teams.

You think Zion wouldn't have sacrificed more money from New Orleans to be LA on a title contender? Players would just avoid poorly managed teams and those teams would just be permanently bad.

So then the NBA would just become international football where teams with wealthy owners would dominate. Ballmer would love this.

Let the kids choose where they want to go and pay them (and the rest of the players) accordingly.

I don’t see the issue. Balmer isn’t the only billionaire.

The Buss’ would sell the Lakers within a week btw. You guys would be saved expeditiously.

Could just do away with the lottery entirely.

Teams are always going to tank to an extent, but flattened odds made it worse.

The lottery just creates this midseason exodus from the middle when teams realize they aren’t gonna make the playoffs or want to avoid the play-in and it’s just a rush to the bottom 5.
