The titanic vol. lost

why wasn't the submersible tethered to the ship they left from? surely there's a 2 mile long cable, right?
1/ Cable is ****ing expensive
2/ only needed if loss of communication was considered a no-no (e.g: sub controlled from the surface)
3/ cable tethered to sub could impact safety of surface ship due to underwater currents
4/ would probably need a much larger surface ship because of the weight of a proper 4000m cable.

In short, it is costlier and more resource intensive, which seems to go against the philosophy of Oceangate (making things happen on the cheap).

after this and the homie jumping out the cruise ship into the ocean I’m staying away from the ocean for a cool minute.

The ocean is amazing if you respect it. Thinking you can jump off a cruise ship and survive, and going to the depths of the ocean in a questionable vessel is the opposite of that.

And I know they’ve had successful voyages to the Titanic before, but by all accounts it was only a matter of time before they ran into issues. Not trying to shade anyone, but making smart decisions when dealing w/ the ocean goes a long way to keeping oneself alive.

That respect carries over to ALOT of other things as well..Guns, weights in the gym, driving, animals etc..

It wasnt its maiden voyage though no? Or maybe it finally gave in I guess after so many trips.

Yeah that's the thing. Given how poorly constructed the vessel was, I doubt they did the proper fatigue and damage tolerance analysis for how it might hold up after multiple missions of varying duration and depths so it's possible some system finally broke down from all the prior usage.

This is the first time I’m learning about the technology behind deep sea exploration and the more I’m reading about this “submersible” the more I’m shocked at how unprepared and Mickey Mouse the technology is behind something so extremely dangerous. Everything seems so willy nilly

Yeah not looking good. You couldn’t get me to set foot on that pos. I won’t even go on a cruise.

It seems willy nilly because it WAS willy nilly  I wouldn't be worried about traveling on a cruise ship. All cruise ships operate under international guidelines that regulate dame near everything. The issue in this instance is that unlike boats submersibles are largely unregulated especially when operating in international waters (which Is why I brought up how he shadily loads it onto a Canadian ship).

From what I've read about the company, they fired and sued the engineer who refused to allow the use of 1300m rated equipment for the vehicle, knowing that it was meant to dive much deeper than that.

Precisely. HE knew the risks he was taking with each trip but chose to ignore them.

I would extend this to all forms of transportation but that is my bias showing .The craziest part is that the CEO actually believed in his rouge ways and shotty product enough to get on the vessel AND PILOT IT! :wow:

Anyone found pics of how it looks inside? It looks tiny af for 5 people on the outside.

Aww hell nah.

Mankind has thought it could "conquer" (for lack of better word) nature from the beginning of time. It's never ended well.

Ocean is scary and beautiful at the same time. So much unknown.

Ain’t know way in hell if I’m a Billionaire I am in that little tube with four other people. Hell na.

Similar to Zion Williamson not having folks around him to handle courting multiple highly priced escorts, I am not sure how a billionaire doesn't have people to advise him that this is wildly dangerous. Not even just going that deep in the ocean but the company itself.

Same billionaires would be afraid to go to space on a NASA approved rocket but will enter this vessel to go to the deep sea :smh:

Dude went to space with Bezos :lol::lol::lol:

Man, Jeff isn't his real friend if he let him go on that vessel  That honestly makes it worse. Terrible situation on all fronts.

Then to have your stepson moshing or whatever it is they do at Blink 182 concerts during the middle of it all? |l

so his son is at the blink show and you want strangers too really be just torn up about. its the internet. i dont condone it, but sheeeeeeeeeeeit

They strangers too man. I don’t condone it nor care to be honest. Just cringe to see people hate but that’s just how the internet is lol.
