I've never touched a Fallout. Would jumping into 4 be confusing or are they pretty much their own stories for each sequel?

Each one is an independent story in a much larger universe. There are indirect references but you should be fine starting with 4.

I thought I'd be the only one. Never played it either, but started to notice is realizing Bethesda, the developer of Elder Scroll Skyrim helped developed it. And I loved that Skyrim game, so I'm getting this Fallout 4.

I haven't really followed either as far as trailers or news regarding them. I usually buy the new cod every year outta habit. Never played a FO. Are they similar to Witcher, as far as gameplay style and mechanics?

Fallout is definitely more like Witcher 3, outside of mechanics because it's a (generally) first person experience. Quests and materials system is just like Witcher.

To me with the rpg elements. I might have to pass on fallout until Christmas. This trip hurt my pockets but i couldnt pass it up.

Lol they need to stop making that game. It's really bad. Like sure it gets better each year but it isn't drastic enough for the game to be good.
