Florida Gators starting defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested for DUI early Tuesday morning in Gainesville, according to Gainesville police departmentspokesman Lt. Keith Kameg.

Dunlap, a junior from North Charleston, S.C., was arrested at 3:25 a.m. near campus and was booked into the jail at 5:52 a.m., according to police. Kamegsaid officers responded to a reckless driving complaint and found Dunlap's 2000 Chrysler stopped at a traffic light near the 200 block of W. 34thStreet.

Kameg said officers found Dunlap's car stopped at a green light.

"They approached the car and found the suspect slumped over in the driver's seat," Kameg said. "He appeared to be asleep. The car'swindows were cracked so they attempted to wake him up. They talked to him and he would only open his eyes for a few seconds and then fall backasleep."

Kameg said officers were able to unlock the car and turn off the ignition. Kameg said officers reported that Dunlap "had trouble listening toinstructions." He was given a field sobriety test and performed "poorly," according to Kameg. He refused to take a Breathalyzer at the scene,Kameg said.

Dunlap, who is considered a potential first-round draft choice if he leaves Florida after this season, has 35 tackles, including 8½ tackles for loss, and istied for the team lead with seven sacks. He was named MVP of the 2009 FedEx BCS National Championship Game, in which the Gators defeated Oklahoma 24-14 to wintheir second BCS title in three seasons.

Dunlap was arrested five days before the No. 1 Gators will play No. 2 Alabama in the SEC championship game in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

Florida athletics department spokesman Steve McClain didn't immediately return a call to his cell phone Tuesday morning.

FSU to the........Gator Bowl?

I guess that is provided that Bobby leaves, but still.

@ making that bowl over other teams.

I seriously doubt that happens. There are strict NCAA provisions on teams with 7 or more wins getting preference in bowl games. However, money does talk onsome circumstances, very loudly too.

Commitments react to news of Bowden's retirementUpdates on Bowden's future, Fisher's contract and more

Talk about it in The Tribal Council

With the Seminoles struggling to a 6-6 regular season record, they weren't expected to play in a New Year's Day bowl game. However, that will likely change if Bobby Bowden announces his retirement as expected.

If that happens, Florida State will be invited to play in the 2010 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.

"If Coach Bowden retires and coaches a bowl game, we would invite them," Gator Bowl Association President Richard Catlett told Warchant.com.

FSU is 5-0-1 all-time in the Gator Bowl.

Catlett said that the Seminoles would likely square off with Big East representative West Virginia (8-3) in the game. The historic matchup would involve the two teams that Bowden has coached at over the past 43 seasons.

"I think it would be great for the Gator Bowl but also a great way for the city to honor him," Catlett said.

While Catlett made it clear that the Gator Bowl Association plans to invite the Seminoles, he said there are some final hurdles to overcome with the conference before it's official.

"We have to get permission from the conference," he said. "We like to wait until Sunday but with all of this going on I am pretty sure the conference would honor Bowden."

By rule, the Gator Bowl is not required to take the loser of Saturday's ACC Championship Game between Clemson and Georgia Tech. Also, Virginia Tech is expected to be selected by the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta according to Catlett. So that has led to discussion between the GBA and the ACC to ensure that Bowden's final game on the Seminoles' sideline is in Jacksonville.

"We absolutely have had discussions," Catlett said. "We have a one-win rule but we aren't required to take the loser of the ACC Championship Game. We can look at the next level down and the next level is a 5-3 or 4-4 (in conference)."

For Catlett, who has had many interactions with the Seminoles and Coach Bowden throughout the years, the expected announcement of retirement is tough to swallow.

"It hasn't sunk in," he said. "It is hard to believe college football without Bobby Bowden. The excitement and the thrill that I will get to see him coach his last game. Vince Dooley coached his last game in the Gator Bowl so it is kind of a once in a lifetime."

The Gator Bowl is played on New Year's Day at 1 p.m. and will be televised by CBS Sports.

FSU is gonna get traaaaaaaaaashed by the media If/When Bowden retires.

^IDK man, Kirk was talking yesterday about how it was time and all this other stuff. he wasn't trying to bash the program, but I can see some peoplecompletely murdering us.

If we get the Gator Bowl that will be the 1st time that place sells out in the longest.

Dunlap better get suspended the whole SECCG

Charges will prob get dropped, it's Gainesville. Best move was not taking a breathalyzer and they can't charge you for performing "poorly' ona breathalyzer.

I'm sure UF boosters got some ties to Gainesville PD and this will all get swept under. He'll play on saturday.

SMH @ Dunlap. Why the hell couldn't he get one of these dumb broads to drive him around?

He definitely won't face criminal charges because there's no hard evidence of him being over the legal limit. They probably made him sit in a cellover night and by the time they'd get authorization to conduct a breathalyzer/blood test he would be below the limit.

But come on... Urban HAS to suspend him for something like this. If it was any other program in the country he'd be sitting.

Not only did Patterson sign an extension in January to keep him at TCU through 2014, it looks as if he is about to sign another one tomorrow. Looks like I havebeen totally right so far...

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU and coach Gary Patterson have agreed to terms on a long-term contract extension, according to two sources close to the situation. An official announcement is expected Wednesday morning.

The sources both said part of the agreement includes pay increases for his assistant coaches.

Patterson, in his 12th season at TCU and ninth as head coach, has an 85-27 record in his tenure. That includes TCU's 12-0 record this season, theschool's first undefeated campaign since 1938.

Patterson to sign an extension with TCU tomorrow?

I guess if Stoops is solid on staying at OU, there's not really another job out there worth leaving for this year.

Friedgen is keeping his job at Maryland for another year. They've got that HCIW (

Haven't we learned that extensions mean nothing, though?

Patterson gets more money now, the university probably writes in a higher buyout for the day Patterson leaves...

Jefferson drops UCLA after visit to USC

Monday, November 30, 2009 | Print Entry

Posted by Greg Biggins
Things have come full circle in the recruitment of Tony Jefferson (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake). Jefferson was a silent commitment to USC last spring, but after going their separate ways, the Trojans are now very much back in the mix.
After visiting the Trojans this past weekend, UCLA is now out of the running and two schools -- USC and Oklahoma -- remain for the talented athlete.

"The UCLA players really disrespected me before the game," Jefferson said. "When they saw me, they were all cussing at me, telling me to never come around Westwood again and things like that. These were guys that I had hung out with before and it was a lot of the team. I guess I kind of see it since I was committed there and was wearing USC gear before their big game, but I still didn't appreciate it.

"I can't play with dudes like that, no way. I wasn't really sure about UCLA in recent weeks but I was still going to visit there but that's out. I still like the coaches, but when I told my mom what happened, she was upset too so they're out and I'm going to decide between USC and Oklahoma and they're dead even right now."

It seems like ages ago but Jefferson was actually a Stanford commit during his junior year. The two-way standout then was a silent commit to USC before backing off and giving UCLA a firm commitment last summer. Jefferson remained committed to the Bruins this whole year, despite taking official visits to Michigan, Arizona and Oklahoma.

Jefferson has visited USC unofficially multiple times, but still said the official visit was well worth it.

"I had a great time," Jefferson said. "I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the game. It was a good atmosphere and it was fun to be a part of something like that. The coaches and players really get along well with each other and you can see the love they have for one another and it's awesome. Taylor Mays was my host and he's a cool dude and I got along great with all the players there.

"Right now, USC is recruiting me as an athlete and said they'll figure out if I should play safety or running back at a later time. I'm fine with either spot to be honest. I had 290 yards rushing and four touchdowns last game and I'm really enjoying running the football. I think they see me as an Allen Bradford-type, the big, physical back and that's cool for me."

Jefferson said he's done with visits and is hoping to make a decision between the Trojans and Sooners sometime in December.
"Oklahoma is coming over Tuesday for a home visit," Jefferson said. "I'm sure USC will be coming in too but we haven't discussed it yet. Like I said, right now, the two are dead even and I really like both schools a lot. This whole recruiting thing has been crazy and I can't wait for it to end. There has been so many twists and turns but it should be over soon and I'll be glad when it is."
ESPNU 150 wide receiver Kyle Prater solidifies USC commitment
Four-star pass-catcher Kyle Prater (Hillside, Ill./Proviso West) is finished with the recruiting process following his official visit to USC.

He told ESPN affiliate Web site WeAreSC.com, "I'm going to USC."

The highly-coveted senior previously maintained a soft verbal to USC and was considering Notre Dame.
