Because they were entertaining going to the ACC. Believe it or not your pre-conceived opinion of why the ACC is not a good fit for Texas isn't what's guiding all these discussions.

I don't think they were entertaining it. What they were doing was using it as leverage. Texas had a ton of it starting last season, but it has slowly whittled away. They could've joined the Pac 10 on their terms last season. Now, they will be joining on the Pac 12's terms.

Talk about over playing your hand.

Going to the ACC was just a bluff.

THANK YOU!

whats the different when you heard rumors of texas going to the big10 last year and the ACC this year? NOTHING its all about texas trying to use them as leverage. you really think the good ol boys around texas and there fans base want to travel up and down the east coast from Boston College to Florida year in and year out in all sports? HELL NO. ACC gains more by adding texas then texas gains by going to the ACC.

And Rutgers was the next option behind Nebraska.  Those dudes are as good as in (even the ACC is courting).  B1G is salivating over the New York/Jersey market and east coast.

i though mizzou and pitt where the next options. like ironman said in making a super conference i dont see how rutgers gets in. bball sucks and football sucks. it was said last time around that getting Rutgers would not get you the NY market since nobody gives a rats *+@ about rutgers there.

And you'll probably see TAMU join that bloc once we finally get formally accepted.

i dont even see why A&M would say no. i mean you just got accpeted in and going to try deny someone the samething

i mean they would have some to fight over last place with.

TCU being left out makes me mad, but what pisses me off even worse is the teams like Minnesota, Duke, Rutgers, Vandy, etc...getting into the party when really they arent worth anything. At this point there are really only 2 options for TCU. Hope the Big East and Big 12 can merge, or just stay in the !!#!*%$ MWC
Please. TCU left the WAC for greener pastures and they did the same to the MWC. They should have taken a long look at the shifting landscape of college football instead of playing their hand too early.

Why doesn't Boise St beg and plead to get into the Pac pic a number?  Did they not see the power shifts coming, or they just don't care, what gives?  Can't tell me they wouldn't fit in there, hell they'd be the second best team in the conference til Texas and OU get in there.  Is it market?  Academics?

and the major one is academics.

All that is definitely true, I agreed with you on that from the jump and from Texas' point of view the ACC sucks in every way unless they had let them keep the LHN. However the facts are that Texas and the ACC did have discussions. I'm sure that was not at all Texas' first choice and they may have only been discussing terms to get the Pac12 to bite, but they did happen. The ACC wasn't willing to budge on letting TT in nor on the Longhorn Network and unequal revenue sharing (unwise move IMO) and once the Pac12 contacted Texas late on Saturday the talks between the ACC and Texas pretty much fell apart.
EDIT: Heard that the SEC turned down WVU's application. Anybody know anything about that?

It has everything to do with Academics.  Boise State make Arizona State look like an Ivy League school, that's probably a bit too harsh, but that's the reason they will not get an invite.  Plus, they don't have a track record of success.

They are good now.  Even then, how would their success be in a conference where every game you are playing a BCS game (*No Cal playing HS teams jokes please

Might wanna pay attention next time.

In 1999 Air Force, BYU, Utah, Colorado State, and Wyoming were unhappy and split off to form what was then the Mountain West Conference along with New Mexico and SDSU. TCU didnt leave the WAC until 2001 after the WAC was a former shell of itself...

Fast forward to now. TCU didnt accept the Big East invitation until AFTER Utah and BYU had already decided to leave. What did you want them to do? TCU has never made the first move to leave a conference. It has always been after other teams leave.

A better way to put it: what people say about WSU being inferior to UW is what people say about BSU compared to WSU. They are known for nothing outside of a football team that's been good for about ten minutes. It's all about academics.

Is it really that unbelievable that TAMU would do this? By promising UF, UGA, USC, and UK that we wouldn't vote yes to accept FSU, Georgia Tech, Clemson, etc., it basically prevents another Texas team from being invited to the SEC. TAMU just got a recruiting advantage to separate themselves from other schools in Texas (playing in the SEC), so why would they want to lose that?

I'm well aware of the history. TCU might not make the first move to leave, but they continually panic at the first sign of upheaval. What would I prefer them do? Wait or not cry.
