2011 College Football "The Real been hacked!!!!" .

Even if the Big Ten wanted to expand who would they take? Who would want to join them? I know ND is the obvious but after that it sounds like most of the schools from the other conferences are going somewhere already. Altho I suppose if the B1G wanted to expand things would be a bit different

The Big East isn't going to die, it will just be a mid-tier conference.

I know Cincy has had some recent success on the gridiron, and has had a record of success on the hardwood.  Let's not pretend they are not a few years removed from playing in Conference USA.

Frankly, I don't think Boise State has a spot in the 64.

Because the Big Ten doesn't want any of those schools.
Just to add to this, the Big Ten has major interest in extending it's reach towards the East.  Hence why many think Rutgers is a lock even though they will not deliver the NY market.  It's probably why the ACC moved fast to get Pitt and Syracuse.

It makes more sense for the Big XII schools (Texas, OU, OSU, TTech) to go West, logistically.  Though Football is king, they have to consider sending non revenue sports from Austin to Happy Valley, etc.

The big fish for the Big Ten is and has always been Notre Dame.

It will be interesting to see where TCU, Kansas, Louisville and others land.  MWC with TCU, Boise and Kansas wouldn't be too bad.

Makes ASU look like it belongs in the Ivy League?

Wow.

This is so hard to follow. That market article on the last page was great.

From what I have read the ACC acted quickly and pressured Pitt and Cuse to join a) in order to make sure that if the Big 12 or Big 10 tried to poach any Big East schools that the ACC wouldn't be left with nobody to add, and risk losing FSU, VT, or Clemson, and b) to get the TV market spanning the whole East Coast (still don't think Syracuse or Rutgers draw that much in NY, but w/e).  Also by hastening the demise of the Big East they put more pressure on Notre Dame to join a conference by taking away two BE bball heavyweights (and maybe 3 if they add Uconn).
Plus if the teams on ND's schedule are part of superconferences it takes away some of ND's scheduling flexibility, as most teams play only conference games later in the season and it's harder to fit in Notre Dame if there are now 2-3 more conference games and fewer slots to play OOC opponents. The ACC wants ND pretty badly and I doubt you'll see them expand past 14 until Notre Dame is spoken for or refuses to join. Notre Dame really wants to stay independent but they've said if they have to join a conference they'd prefer the ACC over the B1G.
