Is it safe to say Breaking Bad > The Wire?

love bb but wire is a masterpiece.

it takes a special show to introduce new core characters every season that all have their own storylines and have the viewers care about each one of them

it really was a show about the entire city rather than just a couple people

Wow @ this thread being made in 2011 :lol

Wouldn't be surprised if I got a post in here saying wait and see. I definitely like BB more than The Sopranos though.

They now stand as 1A and 1B in my book.  For me, the Wire is almost at MJ levels, kind of a holy grail in terms of TV shows.  Both have a lot of texture and complexity and they both sustained excellence from start to finish.  But having watched both shows multiple times, the Wire is just so much more ambitious in its scope and overall narrative.  BB is a narrative of WW and the world that inhabits him whereas The Wire is a narrative not only of great characters but of the whole city of Baltimore.

I will say, though, NO show, the Wire included, has steadily gotten better every single season the way BB did.  Started out great, ended out phenomenal.  S4 of the Wire and S5 of BB were on a whole nother level than any other show I've ever watched.  Trult great TV.

Gotta go with The Wire. I actually like the ending to The Wire. I remember peeps going nuts the last season of The Wire on the forums wondering if Mc Nulty was actually gonna die at the end Just like Walt in BB.

Like many said The Wire was more real and had many levels that attracted different kinds of people. Maybe BB would of been better if AMC gave them one more season to wrap it up better.

The wire is definitely better for me because of how intelligent the show is from a sociopolitical standpoint.

I've only watch the first 3 eps of season 1. I need to take a night and just jump headfirst back into it like I did Walking Dead.

:Nthat

The Wire kills Breaking Bad in character development, with far more major and minor characters.

just started the wire yesterday & ended up watching 3 ep's back to back :lol

Great so far :hat

The wire is the most candid television show ever made. It offered a unique lens into politics, poverty, race and social dynamics that has never before been done to the level and I doubt ever will.

Breaking Bad is a show about specificity, about details and how the smallest things in life have huge implications. Additionally the character development was astounding and set a new standard.

The Wire is the better show for several reasons.

1.) The vastness, much like life there is no main character, the characters simply exist, and while both shows carry large casts the Wire dwarfs BB in scale and scope. Every character from Mcnulty to the extras held their weight, unheard of prior.
2.) The content- character driven shows are tough-especially to do them well, but covering such things as poverty, class differences, drug dependency, crime, and race-sometimes in the SAME EPISODE- are damn near impossible.Off ambition alone, the Wire wins.
3.) Timing- it's impossible to discuss this without mentioning that the Wire came out first, and obviously had direct impact on BB. Can't say there is no BB without it, but it definitely doesn't come close to as aspirational without it.

Love breaking bad, never seen the wire.
