Mark Teixeira Close To Making a Decision...

Pujols is a great hitter he isn't an elite hitter, he quietly puts up solid numbers he doesn't carry a team dude.

200M is A-rod money YO!

$200 mil for Teixeira is OD. Anyone who thinks he is worth that much is buggin. Pujols, Berkman, Youkilis, Morneau, Cabrera, and Lee are all in the same boatas Teixeria. Don't get me wrong, he is a very good player and will be for a long time, but he ain't anything "special". He'll put upsolid numbers, but I doubt he can carry an offense like some people are expecting.

the only 1b better than Tex is Pujols.
Ummm...

Ryan Howard
Miguel Cabrera
Justin Morneau
Kevin Youkilis
Adrian Gonzalez
Prince Fielder
Carlos Delgado

All of them put up comparable, if not better numbers than Tex. The fact that Tex is a gold glover makes him a lil more appealing, but the fact that he plays a position that doesn't necessarily require you to have a great glove doesn't give him much of an edge over everyone else I listed. I'm not saying he aint a great player and I wouldn't want him on my team, but he's not in the elite.
Some of those guys you named off are NOT putting up these kinds of #s....

This isn't an elite hitter?!?!

Howard (MVP winner), Cabrera, Morneau(MVP winner), and I forgot to mention Berkman all put up similar numbers. Gonzalez is only getting betterand you can even say guys like Joey Votto will be there in a couple years. Delgado showed he can still put up big numbers last year and even though Princedidn't have a year everyone thought, he still went 276/34/102. And lets not forget Youkilis was an MVP candidate this year as well.

This is clearly Boras at work. No one is denying Teixeira's talent, however, look at the deals Pujols, Morneau, Cabrera signed and tell me he is worththat much (double) more than the three I mentioned.

Albert Pujols - 7 years/ $100 million
Justin Morneau - 6 years/ $80 million
Miguel Cabrera - 8 years/ $152 million

Granted, Pujols and Morneau passed up millions to stay with the organizations they currently play for. So Teixeira, according to Boras, is worth more thanPujols and Morneau combined.

Sums up my feelings about the situation. Whoever pays this much deserves to wear a dunce cap for the season.

If you are top 10 in OPS and top 10 in runs created I think that qualifies you as an elite hitter.

Teixeira is a really good 1B hits for contact, AVG, hits about 35 homeruns with 115+ RBI, Gold Glove Defense he is a very good hitter to put in the cleanupspot he makes any team better and the 3 and 5 hitters better.

For the short time Teixeira was an Atlanta Brave he put up crazy numbers for half a season almost more than an RBI per game and was very clutch and works thecount with his plate discipline. I don't think he deserves 20 dollar contract thats just Boras hiking up the price but Teixeira is an elite hitter unlikeRyan Howard who is all Strikeout or Homerun and poor defense + poor AVG.

The marketplace determines your value as much as your talent does. If Pujols was the only elite hitter on the market he would get a billion dollars.
If you want to win next year and you think Tex allows you to do that then he is worth every penny.

Tex is better than all of those listed. thank you.

You guys must have crazy high standards for "elite hitters" to me .900 OPS gives you elite status. Let alone being Top 10 in every meaningful stat.

Sheesh.

Ryan Howard
Miguel Cabrera
Justin Morneau
Kevin Youkilis
Adrian Gonzalez
Prince Fielder

WOW. You really do not know your baseball. The only one I would even consider giving you on anything would be Fielder. And that's really just for his pop.As far judging on all 5 tools, Tex surpasses all the above named players easily. Man, I hope the O's get him.

^^^in that list, i would take cabrera mourneau or youkilis higher than texiera...

the rest just swing for the fences and strike out like crazy

Mourneau splits with Tex imo and Cabrera as a hitter is far more dangerous than Tex. In the field however, eh

I'd take Pujols and Miggy Cabrera over Teixeira RIGHT NOW as first basemen...

There's not anybody else at the position better... Though I could see the argument for Justin Morneau...

But just because he's a Top 3 player at his position doesn't make him worth $200 million or upwards of $24 million annually...

So since it is across-the board accepted that he is not even the best player at his position, why are teams falling for this?

If the Nats or Orioles want to pay him 20 mil a year, let them have him. He's a player thats production can be replaced in my opinion,
