***Official Political Discussion Thread***

In past decades, right-wing rebels on Capitol Hill have encountered trouble getting real traction — shunned by lobbyists and big-money political action committees, excluded from leadership suites in the Capitol and disregarded by Fox News. But with the help of Mr. Bannon, who streams live for four hours every weekday, Mr. Gaetz and others don’t need to rely on any of that.

He has also encouraged hard-right lawmakers to use the House floor to yank legislation as far to the right as possible — earning themselves media attention in the process. His advice to them: “Get an amendment. Make it as outrageous as possible. Just be on there — don’t worry if you’re not on Fox — we’ll cut it, we’ll play it.”
Dude is picking up the torch Limbaugh dropped (or tried to smoke)

But all of that appeared to be water under the bridge the morning after Mr. McCarthy’s ouster. They were, at least temporarily, allies. On Wednesday, they sat next to each other in Mr. Bannon’s basement, where books about China, Trump and sensible weight loss programs live in messy piles on any flat surface that avails itself.

This thing that's starting to irritate me are conservative minorites that live in blue states washed up in this rhetoric that somehow red states will give them both the law and order they want while at the same time allowing them to break the specific laws they want -- while also never actually planning to leave their blue bubble. Amazes how stupid and isolated people can be in NYC at times. Also there isn't a police department in the whole country that isn't already "red", no matter the state, so I don't know where this fantasy comes from.

"In fact, audits of millionaires have dropped 92% over the last decade thanks to Republican efforts to starve the IRS of adequate resources. This revelation comes just before a looming government shutdown where House Republicans are proposing to cut IRS funding by $67 billion. …”

But this party represents the blue collar and hard working Americans. ****in disgusting.

:smh:

As someone who's been audited several times throughout the past 9 years or so, it's a draining hassle too for some average person to deal with.
You have to submit all kinds of documents, submit written statements about the nature of certain transactions etc, and it takes forever to resolve.

Yeah, somehow the GOP manages to convince the working class that funding the IRS is bad for the working class

I mean, regular folks are getting audited regardless but at least restore the ability to tackle more complex filers

That Bob Menendez indictment is...something
Mans was out here with about $480k in cash stuffed in random closets, jackets, ... throughout his house, along with a pile of gold bars.

After the feds raided his home, he said it was for "personal use"

The pockets of those in the blue collar crowd that supports the GOP are heavy. Those folks are not your cashier or janitor; they're the specialized tradesperson that drives a 90k truck and owns a couple of rental properties. It's the other face of the American petite bourgeoisie, but without the college education.

Is it really that hard of a task in a country where way too many folks believe that working overtime means you'll earn less money?

There is a point in time it isn’t worth working anymore though because it’s just a waste. You don’t lose money it’s just stupid to work when it’s taxed so hard.

Does anyone think the American experiment will make it another 300 years?

I have some serious doubts about it given the lack of care or attention we put toward long term things like infrastructure.
