***Official Political Discussion Thread***

The Biden administration and Netanyahu’s divisions over Israel’s handling of its war with Hamas, as well as the Israeli leader’s refusal to consider U.S. proposals for a post-war Gaza, have only become more pronounced since Blinken’s visit to Israel, according to multiple senior administration officials.

The secretary of state returned to Washington, the officials said, having been rebuffed by Netanyahu on all but one of the administration’s asks: an understanding that Israel would not attack Hezbollah in Lebanon.

 :smh: Blinken taking L after L

I have a problem with this Bibi dude thumbing their nose at us, but as argued below, the reality of maintaining our presence in an area where Israel, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, China all have nuclear capabilities and are at odds with one another doesn't escape me.

This dude has got to go.

Someone's gotta get him out the paint. He's the biggest security threat to Israel.

And seems to be doing everything possible to **** over Biden.

phrases like "moral panic" are so overused.

the people with the guns and the bombs think the phrase "river to the sea ect"
calls for the destruction of their state and the genocide of their people.

it really doesn't matter if they are right or wrong about that, thats the way they feel about and they are the people you need to convince.

so its probably pragmatic practical advice to avoid the phrase.

but people use concepts like "moral panic" to avoid ever having to think practically about anything.

Yes this is exactly my point.

It is not a "moral panic" to get mad at Netanyahu using the phrase "from the river to sea" it is, OBVIOUSLY incredibly inflammatory.

It's inflammatory when Palestinian activists do it, I even more inflammatory when Bibi does it.

You can't want peace in the region and the go around telling people Israel needs to control the land "from the river to the sea".

It seems like Biden’s best way to deal with the issue of Israel and Gaza, would be to cutoff Israel until Netanyahu is deposed and Israel agrees to a UN brokered ceasefire.

He’d look tough enough against extreme Zionism to win back a lot of lost Palestinian American and Palestinian ally/youth support, but he’d totally take off the table (as relates to him through 2024 at least) the more existential questions that scare a lot of older Jewish/boomer liberals.

osh kosh bosh osh kosh bosh is right, Netanyahu is blatantly trying to help Trump win in 2024. Biden had to get him off the board ASAP and he could undo a lot of the coalition splitting effects of this current conflict.

Your solution while rational is based on the assumption that Netanyahu is saying his comment in defiance of any one person Blinkin or otherwise

Netanyahu never even says his comment in the first place unless he knows the US (Biden or insert _____) would never cut off Israel, which of course is true

Is this "cash on hand" stuff actually relevant anymore? Seems like dark money could be going to Trump that nobody will ever know about, by design

They never cared about the phrase

they simply wanted an excuse and something to pretend to get worked up about

who is "they"?

far from new.. not sure why anyone would defend it or justify it

so by this logic, you don't have a problem with Bibi using the phrase "from the river to the sea?"
you think there is nothing at all controversial about his use of it?
