Why do people engage?
nah, pull up a bill that da GOP brass all agreed on in terms of replace?
once Obamacare fails its da dems who own it, and whoever GOP members helped block it.
Trump has managed to defy a lot of the conventional wisdom of politics. However, this is a risky gambit
As I qualified earlier in this discussion. If engaging with politics views that consider toxic is triggering, feels like an imposition of emotional labor or just plain too exhausting for your taste, you do not have to engage.
If that is not the case, you should engage. You should engage even if it means repeating yourself. How many things do people learn being told something one time and one time only?
You should engage because it is harder to demonize and vilify people with whom you engage. When you establish yourself as being part of shared community, people with opposing views are more likely to listen to you.
I engage because a lot patient professors, friends, family and fellow NTers have engaged with me over the years. When the facts fail to uphold a previously held world view, the next world view will be what has been presented to you over the years. I moved from conservatism and libertarianism over to intersectionality and socialism because I had an political version of an ontological collapse and I was in proximity to a leftist world view.
If I had been isolated and ridiculed by every leftist I ever met then perhaps my falling out with libertarianism would have caused me to become a Steve Bannon style White Supremacist or a Timothy McVeigh anarchist.
True. I feel like the key is to be patient and informative when communicating with people who have voted for Trump. Is it always going to work? No. I understand that a lot of people who've voted for him are not going to change their mind no matter what. But calling Trump voters inbred ignorant racists is not helping the situation.
Kevin McCarthy was on to something when he said this last year...After being given a secret document by officials in Moscow, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher sought to alter sanctions legislation and tried to set up a virtual show trial on Capitol Hill.

Pretty much this. People have been saying Trump would not be able to do this or that since last year. Every time he does, they find some new talking point to measure his success on
Have you thought about ALL the socioeconomic consequences of tax reform the way the GOP envisions it?Y'all are against tax cuts? And simplification of the tax code? I thought there was bipartisan support for Trump's tax plan.
What has he done other than sign executive orders? Dude even gave up the part of the presidency he is most directly in charge of (the military) to the Pentagon.
Have you thought about ALL the socioeconomic consequences of tax reform the way the GOP envisions it?
Have I thought about ALL of them? Probably not. I do know the personal implications for me. Would you care to enlighten me on the glaring issues that you see? Again, I thought there was bipartisan support for his tax reform plan. Isn't this his plan in a nutshell:
For business:
- Reduce the 7 tax brackets to 3 tax brackets of 10%, 25%, and 35%
- Double the standard deduction
- Relief for families with child and dependent care expenses
You think this is bad?
- 15% business tax rate
Depends on what it accomplishes.
You go ahead and look up the various economic analyses of his plan and its potential impact on all sectors of society.
