i hate how older dudes bring up the lame point about these younger kids never having seen mj play,who cares??
for example the nike air mission one of my favorite shoes period also the jordans 10s were one of the few jays i have eva liked growing up and i never watched junior seau or jordan play.....you know why??? cuz i dont like sports.why does there always need to be a connection to sports for the passion to be real?
cant you just like being fly and getting attention from females depending where you grow up fashion plays a bigger role than bone structure.
so what we had better quality ,cheaper prices and funny commercials not much else has changed.i dont find myself hatin on young dudes aint nothing wrong with just liking kicks and feeling a confidence boost when wearing a new pair of kicks.
i only hate on the people who buy for the sake of buying!
for example jumpmanbostic why does that man need to own the og aqua 8s,2007 retro and the last retro lol?couldnt that size go to somebody else who really wanted them?
and same with a 13 year old kid who asks for a pair just cuz its cool but he rather own a new video game(i understand the need for acceptance)it just bugs me thats all.

Personally I feel like watching the man play is an integral pre-requisite to truly appreciating the experience of wearing his brand.
When you can connect a certain model & color-way to a time you witnessed him play that gives you that special feeling of nostalgia, that's beautiful.
I think us 80s (and even 70s) babies just feel like a lot of 90s kids don't share our appreciation for that era. It's more than just Jordan, it's the entire era we grew up in. My father like myself is a Lakers fan, I'm a HUGE Kobe fan. But he made damn sure his son appreciated Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West and Magic Johnson.
if you're buying these shoes for their aesthetic value, that's fine, but we still feel you guys are missing out on an integral part of the experience. It's not difficult to watch older games and catch up on your history.
As far as Bostic owning OGs as well as recent retros you do know that nothing lasts forever, right? Eventually the integrity of the OGs will give way and they'll be unwearable. There's been many times I've worn an OG or an older retro only for them to crumble as I'm going about my day, or the sole separating as soon as I take the first step out the door.
So you're going to have to deal with us son, anytime JB/Nike does a retro right on a classic CW or anytime they release a proper/quality new color way. That love never dies son, those memories are with us 'til death. This isn't a fashion statement. I don't do this to impress broads or stunt on dudes. I do this for the love of the shoes themselves and the emotions they instill in me.

That was my point. Nothing is off limits nowadays. Any kid can google info or use mom and dad's credit card on eBay. Everyone has their own personal attachment to sneakers and at the end of the day that should be all that matters, do you like the shoe. It's pointless trying to be elitist with sneakers

like i said growing up in sugar land,tx and growing up in Baltimore,md are worlds apart from what will get you respect from the guys and the ladies phone numbers.
the whole aqua 8 was a bad example bostic has several pairs of jordan 1s in the same color and imo just buys to buys!which makes him no different from a youngin just wanting to be cool in the moment.

but I notice one essential difference between the two. fran has a sincere love and appreciation for these shoes.

Again, I personally don't have anything against kids/people who are into the culture simply for the shoes aesthetic value/connecting with their friends. However, do not get upset with older enthusiasts because they have a sincere appreciation that goes beyond simple stuntin'. Don't get all defensive when we laugh when a youngin' thinks our pair is fake because they've never seen the OG rendition of a certain shoe in person.
If ya'll are ignorant in regards to a certain aspect of a shoe, and we can't help but laugh or roll our eyes, that's not our fault. You guys are the ones missing out, not us. The nostalgia is lost on ya'll.

Truth is newer generation doesn't understand the setimental value some of these models, stories of not being able to afford them back then like we can now just to give an example. I guess it's similar how we won't fully understand our parents point of view on certain things in life.
The fact is that the "OG's" in the shoe game well We are getting old.
It's a shame what demand of the newer generation brings like awful concepts, and color ways but at the same time we get classics that were once relics.

i think it goes both ways, on one had people dont care as much about the stories behind the shoes but on the other hand back in the 90s pretty much every CW or jordans that came out could be linked to a memorable MJ moment.
these days kobes/lebrons/kds have 1231 fruity cws that have nothing to do with the players or teams so its harder to make those connections

heh you're older than me, have no idea how you never witnessed Jordan play. I mean I get it, you didn't like sports. But I mean I feel like you had to do everything in your power not to catch Jordan in his hey-dey. Even my mom who is oblivious to sports could see there was something different about that man when the TV was on.
And you want to talk about baltimore or sugar land, bro I'm from NY. The mecca, and believe me. These birds flock for a male peacock struttin his feathers. But plenty of us who don't wear 'em for these ladies.
Again, it's fine to wear these shoes if you think they're aesthetically beautiful and you like stuntin for others. It's fine but again, those who connect the shoe to the man himself or the era in which they grew up in have a more profound experience.
That's just my opinion.
As far as Bostic goes, I don't know him nor do I know his intent. Though I think there is a clear difference between he and the current demographic. I don't see him going balls out to rock luxury brands to go with his kicks. I don't see him having the need to buy $300 denim (though admittedly I'm big on denim myself, but that's neither here nor there). I don't see him asking for his parents for thousands of dollars to buy shoes.
Dude is a rabid Jordan and JB fan but beyond that there is no need for this peacock like mating ritual these young boys nowadays have. Sorry if it comes off as a bit comical to certain individuals.

well i guess we will have to agree to disagree cuz there were plenty of models i lusted over back in the day that never graced a athletes foot and were never in any commercials.
a hot shoe is a hot shoe i think its more fun making your own memories in your shoes not saying"do you remember that move mj did in these?" thats lame to me sorry.
if thats the way all oldheads think then i would put myself in the new class of just loving designs wanting to be fly back in the day and just enjoying fashion in general and thats the same attitude i have nowadays.

i just don't like the people in it just for the money...yeah there's a lot of money to be made, but it really hurts the people who actually like the sneaker...whether it's a diehard collector or just a dude who wants a fresh pair of shoes on their feet

yeah my words are definitely lost on you because I definitely said it's beyond just Jordan and watching him play (but that IS in my opinion a crucial aspect). It's the era in which we grew up in, that connection, those memories.
For a lot of us it's that feeling we get when we lace up a pair that we had when we were little. For some others it's being able to finally get your hands on a shoe your fam couldn't afford at that time. Still, we remember the times.
Be fly my dude nobody is stopping that. But still, I will forever feel like ya'll are missing out on some special aspects of the experience.

I took my lil cousin to get black red 4s...chatted for a while wit dude in line in front o me. He asked if they had a 12 left.lady said no just small sizes. He bought them including my cuz sz. I was like "yoo ***** wrong with you? " dude did not even turn around to acknowledge me....those are the only people i dont like.

Ditto. As someone who's been obsessed with sneakers since the early 90's I hate the "new hustle" that these kids think they've discovered with sneakers. I remember having to save money washing dishes and skipping lunch just to have those pair of sneakers I would see in the window of Foot locker every week. Imagine that same kid in 2014, having to save enough money only for his size to have been bought up by every reseller and having to save up triple what he originally had to get those shoes now :x :x :x :x makes me want to bash some reseller skulls

I don't even consider myself an OG. MJ caught my eyes with the 11s in elementary school. My mom couldn't afford them for me back then so I was limited to cheaper Nikes. My first Jordans were the 15s in the 9th grade. I don't care too much about the newer kids because you can't blame them for being born after MJ has retired. Being an old fart in this subculture, I do find it very troubling how difficult it is to buy a pair of sneakers nowadays. No other brands will have you jumping for joy to be able to buy something at retail.
Nike has to keep reinventing itself. They can only re-release OG colorways so many times so they have to cook up new schemes for the younger generation, which the older dudes are turned off by.

It depends on where you're from. But for some releases I find it funny that it'll sell out online within a couple hours and it'll sit in the store for weeks. Should be the other way around.

It's really astounding to me how jb can release the same show over and over and it will continually sell out. Put a nike air on the back, raise the price by 50 and somehow they have people convincing themselves the price hike was just because quality on this sneaker is better than the pair released two years prior.
I mean how many version of a black red jordan 1 have been released the last dew years and it still sell out.

i was just watching this recently
holy hell i thought i was doing it when i was younger....but the amount of money involved today, i'm surprised more people aren't turned away from the culture...especially the younger kids....all those kids in the video seem like they're in middle school
