Penny gave Jordan problems that were Dumars-esque during the mid 90s. I disagree with his statement simply because I'm biased since I grew up in Chicago. But his opinion definitely is a valid one.

On some real stuff........ Penny never gave Jordan any problems

Imaleave it like that.......

Man this post makes me feel too old....knowing theres people now who follow basketball and don't know Penny Hardaway had game. Those Lil Penny commercialswere always

.

I remember he was very difficult for teams to guard because he had the skill and speed of a point guard but the size of a forward, much like Lebron is thesedays....although Lebron is obviously much bigger. Penny's jumpshot was light years ahead of Lebrons though.

SMH. I sorry but when penny was healthy dude was a straight up beast, injuries killed his career. Dude had great handle, post up game, long range shot, crazy first step and could Jump out of the gym. Pippen could not even slow him down, and only GP was a better one on one defender that Pippen at the time. Penny's game was beautiful to look at it was not just off balanced threes, a few crazy dunks and tons of traveling.
A guard shooting over 50% from the field while scoring 20+ a game as the number 2 behind Shaq is overrated? I mean really? Damn I don't see Lebron, Kobe, Wade, or any other current guard who scores 20+ a game shoot over 50%. Did I forget to mention that what they call defensive teams now wouldn't stand and compare to defensive teams in the mid to late 90s. Common, sure Penny was part of the Nike hype. But dude was one of the best in that era. If it wasn't for dumb Magic surgeons who screwed up Grant Hill's career too. Dude would have ended up being a HoFer probably.

Penny showed up for the big moments which included playoffs during his time with the Magic. T-Mac never made it past the 1st round. I mean yea Magic had a better team, but the NBA was tougher overall back then too. T-Mac has great regular season moments. But he can never come in the clutch when it really counts, the postseason.
Really? Here are T-mac's Career Playoff stats:

You're telling me he doesn't step up?

Why are people who have only seen youtube vids or watched penny after his injuries commenting on how over rated he is? Penny was a top 10 player in the leagueduring his prime.

i have yet to see anyone in the NBA that reminds me of penny. His game was beyond smooth. He could shoot the 3, mid range jumper was wet, bang on you ifneeded, low post moves, dominated defenders in the post, crazy vision ... basically his game was COMPLETE ...

my favorite player ever ... i'm 25 turning 26 btw

I know WTH???

Penny was nice but I barely remember him he really only had 3 good seasons while Grant Hill had 6 seasons.

Penny
FG% PPG RPG APG
94-95 .512 20.9 4.4 7.2
95-96 .513 21.7 4.3 7.1
96-97 .447 20.5 4.5 5.6

Grant Hill

94-95 .477 19.9 6.4 5.0
95-96 .462 20.2 9.8 6.9
96-97 .496 21.4 9.0 7.3
97-98 .452 21.1 7.7 6.8
98-99 .479 21.1 7.1 6.0
99-00 .489 25.8 6.6 5.2

Penny went to 3 All Star games in his prime.
Grant went to 5 All Star games in his prime

Penny was a All Rookie selection.
Grant was Rookie of the Year

Penny was a All NBA selection 3 times
Grant was a All NBA selection 5 times

The way I look at it Grant was better but Penny went faurther in the playoffs because of this guy

I really dont think we're talking about Penny like we do if he wears this

Brooks or British Knights. The kicks do have something to do with his legacy. He is a tad overrated.

MisterFriendly, Did someone in here state that Penny>>Grant Hill?

If so,

I think Grant Hill doesn't get enough credit, especially not the credit/slurping that Penny gets on here.

Orlando Magics Was one of my Fav teams back in the day

Why do people think shoes helped pennys legacy? You do know that people outside of NT think that penny was one of the best players in the league during thattime. Thats just a sneakerhead mentality i think

My boy had it all, could score with the best of them, had THE best court vision, imo, had great bball iq, and was a pretty solid defender.

I also think the whole, "it was the shoes that got him the love" is BS. I mean the shoes was fresh but for me, being a Penny fan, i was gonna get WHATEVER shoe he had at the time, even if they were butt ugly, just cause they were PENNY'S kicks. So for me, and i'm sure a lot of other Penny fans, it was Penny that made the shoe popular, not the other way around.

Another thing, TMac is my 2nd fav. player of all time and i think the comparisons to him and Penny are not very accurate. Tmac is more a scorer while Penny was more a playmaker.

At the end of the day, both of my fav. players are cursed

EDIT: Hold up, had to quote this:
Penny showed up for the big moments which included playoffs during his time with the Magic. T-Mac never made it past the 1st round. I mean yea Magic had a better team, but the NBA was tougher overall back then too. T-Mac has great regular season moments. But he can never come in the clutch when it really counts, the postseason.
That's such a false statement it ain't even funny. Tmac played better in ALL his playoffs compared to the regular season. People act like he played worst in the playoffs cause he never won. He didn't win because of MANY reasons but not because he didn't perform. Every year in the playoffs, before the Utah series, he has ALWAYS upped his level of play in EVERY category.

you're right but early tmac in houston was more comparable to penny in his magic days as a playmaker.

tmac in orlando was more of mj explosive scorer.

someone said penny plays quicker.. i dont know what you mean by that, if you mean by penny was quicker than tmac then you're wrong.

if you meant by penny had more uptempo games that's because tmac had more offensive moves for half court game.

and people are still arguing about penny vs grant hill.

grant hill was a better player, but he didn't have flair like penny.

penny was more charismatic and had that star appeal helped by nike.

Stats don't equate to making clutch baskets or creating opportunities for your team mates when the game is on the line. T-Mac has done ittime and time again during the season. But never in the playoffs. Penny has done it, and if not offensively than defensively. T-Mac's defense ismediocre at best for his arm length and height.
