STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

How long do you guys go between PR attempts?
Hit 600 lbs on squat last Saturday and I honestly felt like I could've done more but I didn't attempt.
Tried 615 lbs yesterday and had to bail.

impressive! that is a few full size humans!! how do/did you incrementally add weight once you start getting in that 5-6 plate territory?

i just go by how the lifts feel on a given day…if weight feels like it’s moving i might just go for it but even then most times i play it safe and go to a much lighter weight but try to move it more explosively/faster. depends on the lift too, i’m more apt to attempt a deadlift pr than squat, and being that i rarely bench press every time i do it is basically a pr 😂

lol to be honest I didn't do it incrementally at all. I was stuck at 495/5 plates for months. Then one day I decided screw it, I midas 🐋 go for 500 and then did that. I tried 550 in April one day I was really feeling it and then a knee tweak set me back.

My brother gifted me the SBD sleeves last week and Saturday was my first time using them. I felt hella bouncy so I said screw it and worked up to 585. I smoked that and figured I had to try 600. My gym's clips were sliding at that point and I was pretty tired so I left it there.

Failing 615 the other day was reassuring though. I know my gym's safety rails can handle my failure lol

word? so when working up to that heavy how much do you add/go up? i guess ideally if following a program, it would dictate the progression, where you should be, when to max out?

yeah I've never really followed a program so like you I kind of just do what I feel each workout.

Typically I warm up with front squats of 135, 225, and 315; 1-3 reps each. I've been working with 405 recently and trying to do 5x5.
Depending how the first 1 or 2 sets feel I might up the weight to some random number below 5 plates lmao.

A lot of times I get scared to REALLY push myself in terms of more reps cause I've triggered my asthma a few times with higher volume squatting. Not a fun feeling at all.

Took me a couple of weeks to get back to normal
did a few meters run yesterday. today did as much sets as I could. was able to do 2/3 of all the routine. wasn't able to finish my arnold presses and ab workout when my muscles started to shake out of weakness then went jello. breathing was a bit labored with some ridiculous phlegm obstruction. have to spit after every routine. hopefully that clears out more by tomorrow. was experiencing some cold sweats and light headedness after I was done. yeah, definitely still recovering. but it's a good start. I have about less than 2 weeks to get back into shape and come back to work.

Dope ish. :nthat:

To answer your question it depends on how much energy the PR took out of me.

When I was squatting daily back in the desert I hit 500 one day and smoked 510 the very next one.

It really just depends on how much chakra I have in reserve.

Think I'm going back on keto for a little bit. Need to get these last 10 - 20 pounds off and it seemed to work really well last time I did it. Been just counting macros for the longest.

I'm slowly restarting my keto and have been losing some unwanted cravings lately. just curious if some of you here have tried cupping therapy?

Did my 405 attempt today on Deadlift. Failed first one, normally i dont even try it again. But I went for broke.

My form is kind of off, (butt coming up before my back). Watching videos and working on technique.

i feel you on the form thing, how tall are you? i could be off but you might need to set up your shins even closer to the bar, hard to tell…definitely want to try to maintain your start position for no longer without immediately rounding your back, a cue that seems to help me when i feel my form breaking to push through my full foot like when i squat

it’s a long vid but contain a few helpful cues:

there isn’t anything, for most people anyways, particularly effective/special about keto, it's an elimination diet basically with a priority on protein & fat with minimal/no carbs…true keto is going to unnecessarily restrictive for most, especially if they are any kind of active…i heard it can be good for mental clarity tho. another reason i think keto might be effective is that it might keep insulin levels low, and i saw something where it can be really difficult to lose weight even in a calorie deficit if insulin levels in the body are high; something to do with hormones and such

Keto or Low carb > 50-60 grams has never failed me.

Down 25 pounds since starting a well needed cut early April.

Yeah, at lower weight, form would of been a lot better. Think i psyched myself out. I was trying to follow some deadlift tips from videos i was watching but the heaviness of the weight just short circuited my brain lol.

I’ve been doing dead lifts so long I just wing it. I need to re solidify my base and get back to the fundamentals. Proper technique…

I’ll peep the vid.

I wouldn't be "winging it" on deadliffs but that’s just me.

you’re fairly tall, tho i’m not quite your height i have a similar issue because my arms are so long i don’t feel like really get any leverage without raising my hips, worrying about avoiding the bar hitting my shins, or leaning too far backwards, especially as weight increases. so my workaround was not trying to start so low & starting with my hips a bit higher and focusing on maintaining a relatively flat lower back for the lift…similarly with squatting, deadlifting without shoes made me feel more stable

it is quite a bit of adjustment especially if your limbs are not proportional to your other body parts. I have shorter legs, long torso, just a bit smaller feet and average arms. so when I do my deadlifts, I have to reposition in a way that looks awkward to what a safe conventional position would look like.
