The NBA Draft Thread

With Mario you coulda seen he's not that great with the ball tho , didn't need analytics or stats to tell me that ...his handle was effective enough overseas but nothing that screamed it would work in the NBA ...that's his problem now if it ain't an open 3 he can't do ****

Exum hype would be less if he played in another league besides the Aussie high school one ...his rookie year was anything that would lead u to think he would be special even when he was healthy

The draft involves projecting, Mario as an 18 year old holes were no no bigger than just about any prospect you are likley to get outside of the top 3.

it's not that his handle was effective overseas, it was that he really didn't have to use ever which made it difficult to evaluate. but even if it was knowing will and wont fix holes in their games is what makes drafting hard.

Will dareon fox learn to shoot?

will dennis smoth learn to shoot?

will malik monk learn to dribble?

will lauri markkenn rebound and defend?

if you know the awnser please tell me id love to know, because as far as i can tell when boils down to it we are really just guessing.

Now than I think om it Malik Monk and Hezonja are kind of similar prospects. obviously different sizes, but they have the same questions about their games. 8o

in fact if i were to compare at the same age I'd give the edge to Hezonja.

Philly about to be the most exciting young team in the L after this draft. A Fultz, Monk, Simmons, Embiid, Okafor, Saric, Noel team :x

Obviously too many bigs so they'll move Okafor/Noel to better balance out the roster or maybe trade for a veteran. Hinkie died for this

The problem here is how on earth will Philly be able to pay all of them.

Luxury tax ...it's up to the owner

Portland fans, would you give up Allan Crabbe + your first rounder for Noel + maybe a second round?

You wouldn't have to worry about that anytime soon. Looking at the roster, there's tons of money left out there thanks to the new increase. If you pay ohkafor and Embiid eventually, Simmons would still be under his rookie contract and so would the others

Aye who would have thunk that Zach Lavine would have been a better player, than Andrew Wiggins, I didn't, yet here we are.

Like I said in another thread, I got a process with how I look at the draft, and I think it serves me well for the most part, I'm always on the record with my stances on players so you could can always make fun of the times I've been loud wrong. You have every right too it given how much oi an *** I can be. :lol

I try to check in on guys in HS follow development to college and make projections based on analytics, historical president, and eye test...

If there is one course correction I might make is I probably I am a little too hard on "fake point gaurds", I've been loud wrong on Eric Bledsoe, Lavine.

Hezonja and Exum I don't really see where I messed up process wise, other than I maybe let big FIBA performances as 16 and 17 years old stick in my mind head too much. Other than that, sometimes guys don't develop, / get hurt/ are busts.

*shrugs*
It's all good, at least you don't get in your feels about it and hide from it.

Switch Noel for Jah & remove the first rd pick from Blazers end to make it more even and i would happy. I hate Oak right now

Just watched the Sixers game.

Noel >> Oak
Embiid + Noel >>>> Embiid + Oak

I keep saying Noel is very underrated and will stand by it. Dude is a stud. Just the worst luck on earth.

First time i saw Noel back on the court this year, the difference was suddenly so apparent. Im done giving Jah excuses, get him outta here. If Holmes was more ready than i prob wouldnt mind them trading Noel but hes not. In the end i actually think both may be gone eventually tho

Noel is obviously a much better player than Okafor, especially in this current Philly system. Is Philly really willing to match offers for Noel this summer though? Teams are probably going to be offering him $20M/year or so. I know they have a ton of cap space, but are they really going to give that kind of money to a center that has to come off the bench because of Embiid? Noel could start all over the place. Feels like they would almost be holding him hostage by re-signing him...

Kid is going to be a really good player man. The tools are there :smokin

If they don't trade him past the deadline, then Colangelo should workout a sign and trade (haven't seen that in a while).

Yeah, it's an interesting dilemma. I want him in Boston, but don't want to give up assets and then have him hit free agency and be required to match ANY offer. Some team would blindly throw a max at him just to screw with us and then we'd have to match. I feel like a lot of teams are hesitant about this, so they aren't willingly offering anything for Noel. I think teams want to wait til he hits free agency and call Philly's bluff that they'll re-sign him.

I agree. The deadline to trade him was last summer. Now his value is plummeting everyday not because of his play, but because of his situation. They might as well do a sign and trade to max out on his value. Also, by then draft positions will be in place so we will know the value of the lottery picks that we may be interested in.

He had a nice finish around the basket last night, glad to see he's a little better with his touch at this stage than most were expecting. Has a lot of potential.

I was just going to say, it's encouraging to see him score in multiple ways. He came in only knowing how to drive and an occasional three. His development looks good so far.

He was picked third overall, hopefully he's great if you're a Boston fan looking at your future-draft position(s).
Yeah if you look at the #3 pick in a vacuum, that player should be really good. However, this draft was awful, and he was a project....With that said, he is much further along than I thought that he would be at this point. He couldn't finish at all in Summer League, but has actually completely turned that around.

Getting top 3 picks in the next 2 drafts is going to be :smokin though. Stupid Nets.

What's scary is that Boston has a chance in nabbing Gordon Hayward in free agency AND Fultz in the draft. :x

If they play their cards right, they can be contenders as soon as next year and stay that way for the next 15...damn.

There's 1 contender in the East and it damn sure ain't Boston.

After watching this Philly/Boston game, I actually think that Sixers could put Embiid, Noel AND Simmons on the court at the same time and they could be successful. Am I crazy?

Have to see how Simmons is shooting from deep.

If he can't yet. The spacing would be atrocious.
