Wow, never would've guessed your IG was all iPhone. I suppose that just shows how far cell phone cameras have come in the past years. Thanks for the input, guys. I post a lot of pics on IG, *cough* plug *cough*, but they've all been from my iphone and I just want to start poster cleaner pics like the ones you put up, Ben
I'm honestly not satisfied with any of the pics I've posted on there, other than my daughter of course

a 50mm 1.8 will do wonders for creating background blur. I love your IG btw...
the crop factor for your d3100 will make it effectively a 75mm 2.7 and that will still create amazing background blur assuming:
1 - the distance of the camera and the subject is relatively close
2 - the distance of the subject and the background is relatively far
here are shots i've taken with a nikon d7000 and nikon 50mm f/1.8 G (the same lens you posted)
dope shot bro!
would love to link when i'm in SF this year.
the Surf shot w/ Canon 7D Mark II + Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro + Aquatech Water Housing
Frozen Big Bear Lake shot w/ DJI Phantom 3 Advance + ND8 filter.
Went up to Marin yesterday and it's beautiful up there. There are so many spots along the coast that I couldn't go to because of time constraints but I gotta make it up there again during the summer. Got a few shots that I have to edit still but here are two.

Unedited shot of the lighthouse there
Hmmm......I am still thinking even though I am finally shooting RAW that I am not doing something right. I've pulled some info from a RAW file but not to the degree of how you had it. Also when I recover shadows, I get tons of grain which almost makes the photo not worth editing. All that was done in Lightroom right? I only use photoshop but refuse to believe I can't edit RAW files as good.
