In a situation like that where a woman starts to hit you I find just wrapping your arms around her and restraining her arms to cool her off is the best option. In the majority of situations hitting her should never be an option,ESPECIALLY in front of kids.

Now if the woman is trying to kill you or you're in danger than all bets are off,you have no choice but to protect yourself.
