Used a pushpin and a couple small screwdrivers to poke a hole and the lockdown improved A LOT. Hopefully the eyestay doesn't rip, I feel like I don't need to tie em too tight since there's a lacelock so I think I'll be good. They do still feel longer in the toe than my mid 36s same size, but my mids have a jacquard upper instead of the lenoweave so that could be the reason for that.
