***Official Political Discussion Thread***

-Our relationship with Canada is fine. Biden did this yet Trudeau is tweeting and commenting about how excited he is to work with Biden.

-The projection for jobs I believe is much lower than that, and they are not permanent jobs

-It puts ecosystems in danger because pipelines leak a ton. And Keystone I heard would be more prone to leaks because of what they would be moving

-If it does leak, and ecosystems gets destroyed and people's drinking water affected; on a scale from 1-10, how ****ed up would it be that Native Americans are the ones that suffer the most. Because I think it would land at a cool million.

Exactly, if America is to make restitution for its wrongs, the only group more deserving of recompense than black people are native Americans.

The only good that came from that pipeline is that it trained up future leaders of what should be a multi racial, worker led America.

as already stated those pipeline jobs are temporary.

they also aren’t lost jobs, my union is always trying to get people to go work on pipelines if we’re laid off for the season or whatever.

no one wants to go... they already can’t get people out there to work on it.

Show me a guy that was on a pipe crew who can’t find work and I got some beach front property to sell you in Kansas...

anyone with the skill set to work on a pipe crew can find work. Trust me.

NYT really does centrism is the dumbest way possible

Instead of having weak sauce moderate takes on everytime, they mix in some great journalism with complete and utter trash reporting.
I honestly think that’s what they believe balance is. “We did that big investigative report on Trump’s taxes, so it’s only fair that we do a front page spread on how AOC is wearing the stainless steel Apple Watch instead of the aluminum wi-fi only version. And she calls herself a Democratic Socialist.”

They were probably on the verge of blasting Ilhan Omar for her “out of touch” personal computer before learning that the name “GamerGate” was already taken.

Sure, Mitch McConnell and Elaine Chao’s net worth grew from $3.1 million to $33.1 million between 2006 and 2008, but Raphael Warnock drives a Tesla and I hear that radical liberal judicial activist Stephen Breyer owns a color television.

This

If we are gonna be idiots and go backward in the fight against climate change like this, burning coal would make more sense if we are worried about job creation

plus coal is already a thing. Like we aren’t building new coal power plants.

we’re using the existing ones until we have enough green energy to stop using them.

the coal mine worker out of a job is another crock of ****, as if mining is going away. Coal might be but there’s a million other things that are mines.

I could tell you 15 aggregate companies hiring right now. People just want to whine and cry.

We once had a great socialist south and capitalist barbarians from the North. it came from the North. Like, I used to be one of them. Here we are. Socialists, from the south, identify with those barbarians from the north.

You used the term “falsehood” for opposite ends. The article did so to illustrate the unprecedented scope of Trump’s dishonesty; you did so to downplay it.

I did no such thing. But this is what he and others would like to have people believe. I called Trump out throughout his presidency. 33,000 falsehoods aren’t good because the word lie isn’t used. And I’m not suggesting that they are.

You like to pick and choose when you take my word for it. When I said I supported Trump you believed me. Now that I say I don’t you conveniently distrust it. Either I’m a liar or I’m not. Why would I tell the truth about my support and lie about no longer supporting him? It’s not like I avoid any smoke by doing that. It doesn’t even make sense.

The whole reason he calls you out on this is because you chose to deploy a line of bad faith argumentation to avoid the substance of criticism against Donald Trump.

Instead of saying, “I was wrong to defend Trump from claims of dishonesty and racism, and I apologize for attempting to frustrate and antagonize those whom I now recognize to have been in the right on such allegations,” you doubled down with “see, they didn’t call him a liar, either!”

It’s pathetic, to be candid. This is behavior you ought to be distancing yourself from, and if you think yourself the bigger person, it behooves you to act like it.

If you no longer intend to defend Donald Trump, stop defending your defense attempts. You don’t like IATT IATT “taunting” you over every negative story about Donald Trump, but what the hell do you think you’ve been doing here over the past few years? Yikes? Positive job reports? Crime Bill? Any of that ring a bell?

The only difference here is that you’re trying to spike the ball regarding a position you’ve since disavowed. I wish I could say that such gratuitous, self-serving disingenuousness felt off-brand.

Here again you give him the benefit of the doubt with his motives. If you analyzed his posts with the same critical analysis that you are giving mine would it truly yield the same results?

When I used “yikes” I was warned to stop by the moderators. I stopped. Whether IATT IATT was warned or not, he certainly didn’t stop with the page after page of taunting.

I posted jobs reports, without comment. And people responded and discussed them. Highlighted how they didn’t tell the whole story. I stated that I deferred to RustyShackleford RustyShackleford on those matters because I’m not an economist. That is not comparable to tagging one poster page after page.

And the Crime Bill was a valid critique. President Biden was not above those as a candidate. Just like Former President Trump was not above the numerous critiques lodged against him in here.

I can’t imagine how any of this would be self-serving for me. Unless my goal was to get dragged page after page.

All this started because I tagged one poster and said “they chose not to use the term lie.”

It has spiraled despite me explaining that it had nothing to do with defending Trump in the very next post.

Has anyone seen the Uncle Tom documentary on Netflix?

Got a cousin who’s telling me both sides are evil but low key thinking he trying to convert me into a Republican , wanted to hear someone’s opinion bout the doc before I check it out

I haven't seen the documentary. I didn't even realize that there was a documentary, but I am going to check it out.

I will say that, generally, it seems a lot of people misunderstand the Uncle Tom story. Now, the term has become a rather inappropriate pejorative.

When Hillary lost in 2016, liberals knitted pink hats and marched to express their disappointment.

When Donald lost in 2020, conservatives attempted to topple the government and reverse the will of the people.

"Both sides are the same" is what Republicans say to normalize their anti-demicratic behavior.

Rolex starts at like 3.5k. It’s not exactly egregious. Now if he had some high end Patek I’d get it but your average person wouldn’t even know what that is so it wouldn’t generate the click bait.

It is undoubted that he can afford a Rolex. The model he wore isn't even a very expensive model, comparatively.

But I think that many in public office wait until after they leave office to wear certain pieces because of the perception. Especially if they are a career politician instead of someone transitioning from the private sector.

That said, there are generally exceptions when the watches were a gift or heirloom. And it seems that's the case here with President Biden. I'd venture to guess that he probably wouldn't be wearing it if that wasn't the case.

I’m withdrawing my future support from any candidate as soon as they lose the election. Im also a laker, chiefs, Bayern Munich, and whoever won the MLB championship fan. Although, I haven’t decided if the nets are really my squad. I am 100% vegan but occasionally enjoy blue rare steaks on the weekend . Furthermore, I am only loyal to bathing ape unless I’m rocking supreme.

“Lebron james plays basketball, practices basketball, and gets paid to play basketball, but he has never said “I’m a basketball player”. I don’t know if he is or not. Define basketball player?”

I'm still a Braves fan, despite the loss to the Dodgers this past season.

Politics isn't sports. But tons of people still support Trump despite his loss. But I am not one of them.

The idea that you have to stop supporting someone, because they lost, is ridiculous. I chose to stop supporting Trump--period.
