***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Do these people know what the word progressive means? I hate political labels sometimes because it can distract from the nuance of an argument (mainly, arguments from the left and center left, as the right specializes in bad faith) but I wish folks would stop equating "the far left" and the "far right". The "leftists" are not the extremists for wanting clean air, fair taxes on the wealthy, racial equity, wealth redistribution, abolition of prison/policing as we know it, etc. People have been poisoned by American centrist talking points, man. The overton window is so skewed to the right that anything that approaches the *actual* center is seen as a step too far. So frustrating.

clinton
Obama
Elizabeth warren

apparently white women from the suburbs are scared of Corey booker

Again, what GOOD has Trump done? Republicans, answer that question.

I ask this question a lot...here are the most common sound bites I hear:

-Lauren Order

-no new wars (interesting claim for fans of ¨a wartime president¨)

-peace in the Middle East(???)

-deregulation and tax cuts (allowing corporations to suck more money out of society and contribute less woo!)

-the economy was stronger before COVID (my pants were dry before I pissed them)

I even hear that he did the best he could with the COVID crisis itself, which is usually when I end my inquiry.

You forgot the most important one:

As a LOUD Christian and an UNAPOLOGETIC celebrator of Christmas, I can finally go to church again and put up Christmas decorations without worrying about left wing mobs intimidating me into reading the Koran to baby Jesus.

Oh, and now we have the most regressive conservative Supreme Court since... umm... since Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Good read.
To them, Trump is an old man holding up crumbling institutions, enacting policies that incrementally forward the cause without remaking the institutions themselves. When he’s gone, the rubble will remain, and to many he’ll be nothing but a tool they used to build the white power movement up.

The members of Patriot Front think that time is on their side. And with a leader still in his early twenties, they take a long view.

“There is no ‘endgame,’” Rousseau wrote. “The nation doesn’t ‘end.’ We’re not conventionally political to the point where there’s a defined ‘end’ of service. It’s not an office, a seat in congress, a law, or a percentage of representation.”

And this is why people can't disengage from politics as long as what these guys are doing is in any way, shape, or form tolerated.
