I respectfully disagree on coaches coaching to keep their jobs...I think that a lot of young freshman are put into college to develop their games for the pros...Idk how you could say Barnes, Rice, and Self are "idiotic" coaches (offensively)...I think you're just frustrated these freshman aren't allowed to just do their "thing." ...I think that would cause a lot of issues with players mentally heading into the league. If a coach said "here Bennent, Wiggins, Thompson, Cory, etc, take the ball and we will run pick and roll for you and let you do your thing." ...how does that make them better? Maybe I am misunderstanding but idk how you could say certain players don't develop their skills being coached by some of the best coaches in the country. ...Am I understanding you correctly?
I will agree with a 30 or even 25 second shot clock though...
Bill Self is not maximizing the ceiling of his talent, he is minimizing risk.
He runs a rigid offensive system to minimize mistakes, the high-lo motion offence you see in high schools, got the double post ball reversal stuff, everything is about getting one of the big guys to seal his man off in the post so he can catch and finish.
He is purposefully trying to limit the amount of decisions the kids have to make. On both offence and defense they are as conservative as possible.
I understand why Bill Self does this, in a single elimination tournament, or just the nature of dealing with college kids, they make mistakes and you get upset and when you combine that with having one of the best *** court advantages and good recruiting classes every year; you can ride conservatism to a lot of big ten championships. Limiting your mistakes is probably smart decision.
Its bad for NBA prospects, its bad for people who like interesting basketball but its great for Bill Self, and KU fans.
Its no accident that big time perimeter recruits kind of under performed or it took Thomas Robinson being traded twice to stop posting up and focus and start being a pick and roll player.
Rick Barnes is a horrible offensive coach this is common knowledge, he can coach the **** out of some defense, but unlike self makes dumb late game decisions.
Bill Self ain't pro coach, the guys I mentioned are.
They buid concepts around the talent they have and they trust talented players to make mistakes but improve and eventually maximize their skills,
Coach K, "system" aint the same for Bari as it was for JJ Redick.
Jon Belien "system" is different for Caris Levert and Stauskas then it was for the Trey Burke centric squad.
WIggins and Embiid would learn NOTHING from coming back, neither will any elite prospect really.
