While it's true they make their money off other things, the new era of owners don't view owning a team as a hobby. That old school view is what gave the players as much power as they have. It's a new day in the NBA, and the new owners don't view it just as a hobby anymore.

Hunter says sides aren't agreed on 50-50 revenue split, but that's semantics. They'll say nothing's agreed until a deal. But they're there.

Progress was made on three system issues, source tells Y! Sports.

"There was absolutely movement today, enough to come back at it tomorrow," source in talks says.

So many of the system issues are linked, so it's a high-wire act of give-and-take to get them ironed out.

After calling deal within "striking distance" a few weeks ago, union's determined to under sell progress to keep players off rollercoaster.

This remains a tenuous process but the owners wouldn't have, as Stern termed it,, "stopped the clock," without real progress. Onto Thursday.

Okay. Progress made on 3 of 5 system issues, according to source. MLE still a problem. And a couple of new issues added to mix.

daldridgetnt David Aldridge

Not clear if new issues will be problematic on their own, or can be solved if the other system issues get fixed.

Meanwhile, source says players "ready to go" with disclaimer of interest filing w/NLRB if talks break down. Different from decertification.

As far as BRI, union is at 50. Negotiations on system are predicated on that number; league wouldn't talk about system changes otherwise.

even if they were done yesterday they wouldn't want to have a press conference with all that penn state news going on

I've never predicted a deal was going to be made following any of the negotiations, but maybe that's the problem.

Prediction: 13 hours, joint presser, lockout over.

Book it.

At least they didn't appear ready to tell the other side to #@%& off like they did after the previous meeting.  I agree that the fact that they are meeting again in an hour is a good sign.
