These will not have better leather than the original. I do not even buy the story of leather coming from Italy back then. It was just a way to justify a price increase. The shoe will look good I have no doubt. But to claim "better than 87" is a little too much. Even if you have a true DS 87 in hand, you still cannot compare to a leather that is 35 years old.
This Scollard guy loves 2s like I do 7s. I get it, I would be crazy if JB gifted me a pair of retro 7s that were super close to its original. But I would never say they were gonna be better than.

I used to have a pair of the OG white and red 2s from 1986 and the leather wasnt as plush and premium as they would lead you to believe. It was about on pair for leather used for Nike shoes back in the 80s. The Made in Italy production was to make the shoe more desirable and more reason to charge more than they did for the Jordan 1.

American consumers see made in Italy and think some paisan is handmaking each shoe out of cows and pigs he raised himself anything mass produced is still subject to the same production flaws or unethical labor practices as something made in China, Vietnam, or anywhere else in the world. Ya I used to think the made in Italy thing was really cool but now I realize it was more of a marketing gimmick to make the large price increase seem justified. These retros looking great overall, I think i’m more excited for these than any other upcoming retros.

I wish someone would do a "Birds eye" view of the toe box of the 94 retro and this 2022 retro, I'm curious how the shape looks in comparison? the previous retros had a round shape looked terrible imo...
