Either the NY apatment was a luxury for when he played, and he is making a smart move, or it was a luxury that became too costly, and he should have bought.
I'm with you on that....don't know why he just didn't buy.

Thats a dope apartment/ condo, but with those means, I wouldnt ever rent. ESP in NY. But this one def falls into the luxury thats not worth maintaining if im going to be everywhere but NY til a deal is in place.
Some people with the realestate market being in the pooper are doing this... for reasons that still baffle me.
finding a property that you can improve is still a 3 times better option than buying a turnkey property at market value or renting imo.

Report: Owners offered union two choices
We’re at a point of both crisis and opportunity in the NBA’s collective bargaining talks, and that means folks all over the league are going to come out and suggest (or predict) what either side should do. People are angry and worried, and opinions are flying. David Aldridge of NBA.com is both plugged-in and cautious in his reporting as he says he has the owners’ strategy figured out:
Those were the choices the league laid out to the union in Friday’s disheartening session, according to numerous sources. Fifty-fifty with almost nothing for the tax threshold-breakers, or 53-47 for the league with the negotiations the two sides had worked out all week.

Billy Hunter urges players to stand firm

NBA players' union executive director Billy Hunter, in a letter sent to members Tuesday, said the 50-50 split of basketball-related income sought by the league's owners would actually result in far greater concessions by the players and urged them to stand strong and united.

In the letter, obtained Tuesday by ESPN.com, Hunter explained the reasons he ended the most recent bargaining session with the owners last Friday over the proposed 50-50 split.

After that session ended, commissioner David Stern announced that two more weeks of the NBA season would be canceled and that playing a full 82-game season was no longer possible.

"We will not be intimidated by public threats, ultimatums and manufactured drop dead dates. We will stand firm in our resolve to negotiate a fair deal for our current membership and those who will join our ranks in the future," Hunter said.

The players, who received 57 percent of BRI under the last collective bargaining agreement, proposed a 52.5 percent share on Friday.

Hunter said BRI does not represent the total revenues generated by the league, and that the league is allowed to take hundreds of millions in "expense credits" which leave the players with less than the agreed-upon percentage of revenues.

"By comparison, we received 50 percent of total revenue under the previous CBA, and our 53-47 proposal would reduce the player share to 46.4 percent of total revenues. In addition, compared to our former 57/43 split, the owner's proposed 50/50 shifts more than $300 million per year to the owners, which equates to more than $3 billion over a 10-year deal," Hunter explained.

"A move of this magnitude guarantees operating profits for all owners irrespective of quality of management and does not allow players to adequately share in the growth of the league."

Hunter, in the letter, said the NBA seems determined to use hard bargaining tactics to get the deal it wants.

"They have given us 'take it or leave it' ultimatums, threatened to end the season prematurely, reached out to players in an attempt to divide us, misled the press, and pre-conditioned further talks on our acceptance of significant concessions," he said. "This is an unacceptable form of negotiation, especially where the respective fates of the players and the owners are inextricably related. Moreover, it does nothing but damage the relationship between the league and union."

Hunter also said that he and union president Derek Fisher remain on the same page -- echoing Fisher's denial Monday of a report that Hunter and another unnamed member of the union's executive board have questioned Fisher about his relationship with Stern and deputy commissioner Adam Silver.

The article sums it up that Hunter is not doing this, but for anyone else, but himself.  It's pretty obvious that he's done after this deal.  Those players KNOW for a fact that the owners won't move off 50% so holding out for 52.5% is a nice gesture, but it won't bring back the checks the players missed and only hurts them as they miss more games.  Owners have all the leverage know and with the in fighting in the union it makes it a slam dunk for the owners which is what they wanted and expected.

I agree with this. Union heads in general are stupid & self serving. Hunter's even resorted to spreading rumours about Derek Fisher who seems to be a class guy. I understand the position he's trying to take but the economic landscape for the NBA has changed drastically. I can't see it ever going back to the golden years of the late 80's through the 90's where the dough was coming in. Hunter reminds me of the same animal that Donald Fehr was (former MLB Players Assoc head). Both lived in thier own little vacum of a world...

Help me out a sec, when we talk BRI, it's all encompassing.  Every dollar generated by the league, merchandise, beer consessions, ticket sales, TV revenue, etc.  All put into one pool, and then split out from there for the 30 teams.

My question is, the teams then can make their own money from other areas, like seperate TV deals (local) and renting out the arena for concerts and such.  That is all outside of the 4+ billion in BRI, correct?  This is the money that people are claiming is unfair and what not, correct?

Or is the total money not split evenly in the 4 billion BRI?  Things based on like attendance and what not, I have always assumed that was all lumped in, but is that money left alone to each team, even if it's league generated?

The ONLY person who doesn't understand that is Hunter.    At this point all it will take is a few players to come out and say we cool with the 50% and apply pressure to Hunter.  At this point it's just a bunch of hearsay that other players are saying that they cool with 50%.  This has dragged on long enough and it has embarrassed the league as well as pissed fans off.

That's what its been about right from the start. Money wise, if the players gave in and missed no games, they'd be better off than getting a better deal and missing 2 pay checks. If that happens, not only are the owners straight bullying the players (making them concede everything plus 10+% of BRI) but it sets a horrible precedent for the future. As soon as the CBA expired, the owners would bully the players again, maybe bring em down to 35% BRI. Maybe next time they force unguaranteed contracts? Lower the max? Yeah, the players are holding out on principal. As much as it sucks, missing games and potentially devaluing franchises and alienating fans is the only thing that can scare the owners. If they aren't willing to do that, they might as well never negotiate with the owners and just let the owners decide the CBA every 5 years.

Exactly. Thats the only thing the players can fight for now. The owners have won, now theyre just running up the score...why wouldnt they? Fans are gonna come back, players are gonna play. Greed rules.

Broussard just said on OTL that the owners will move from 50/50 split and demand 54/46 split next week if the players don't agree to a deal this week. He also said the owners feel like they can land a monster deal if this stretches out longer.

Damn...players seriously need to take what they got before they lose out on A LOT, owners have really budged from where they originally even wanted to go, but this in the owners hands and if the players don't take this while it's literally BEST for them not only are they going to be in a really bad position but so are all of basketball fans.

im sure with the meeting the players have tomorrow they will agree on a deal very soon, especially if what Brussard said is true. 50-50 is bad but 54-46 is getting screwed big time. its time for the players to just tap out and call it quits and get back to making money.

If thats true about Hunter he needs to be done as soon as the deal is done
